Billett
Apart from insurance from BASC is it advisable to check out other forms of insurance for hold a shotgun? Home insurance - My Home insurance will cover the gun whilst its in cabinet only. im fine with that as if its out the cabinet it will be in my hands only. My home insurance mentioned posession insurance for when i have the shotgun out the house (stated but not whilst in use, thats obvious as i guess they wont pay out if i shot someone accidently like the BASC coverage) but is this recommended? Car insurance? - Havent checked but whats the sort of cover i would expect on this? Only if its locked out of sight i.e. boot?
Cranfield
The BASC (and similar) insurance does not cover damage to your gun. Its worth joining BASC, CA, NGO, or one of the other Country Sports organisations, not just for the Public Liability insurance cover, but they do lobby in favour of our activities. Check to ensure that your House Contents Insurance covers , damage to, or loss of, your gun whilst out of the house and in use. If it doesn't, then add it on. This will probably be the cheapest way you can insure your gun. Separate comparable quotes I have got over the years for guns (and fishing tackle) in use, have all had much higher premiums. Car Insurance frequently does not cover "sporting goods" kept in the boot. I think this started as a reference to golf clubs, but does include guns and fishing tackle. Jimbo57
BASC insurance does not pretend to cover guns or equipment. Most household contents policies only cover contents while they are in the house. It is usually an extra option to have property covered while outwith the home. But that is a very worthwhile option to take as it would also cover things like cameras and your wife's engagement ring. Sometimes the policy will state that any individual items valued above a certain figure (say £1000) have to be individually specified, so check you policy for those details. Billett
Yeah i rang the company who i have house insurance with advised them i'm going to get a gun, and they said it will be covered if stolen from my cabinet on my existing insurance. They then stated I can get a further posessions insurance of which will cover me when i take it out the house incase its stolen then. Might be a good idea to check again with regards to damage to the gun also. Thanks
Tam
I am a member of BASC but one thing to remember is that their Insurance will not cover you for legal representation should you have to fight a case - unlike SACS Which is also cheaper
