pantheman
Hi Guys, Been reading the in memory of thread, god I was sad to read all that stuff. I wanted to ask a question. The great dane that just passed was 8 1/2 years and the comments were that was good for a dane. I thought that dogs lived 12 or more years. What is the life span of a dog and does each breed vary. How long (alls being well) can I expect my cockers to live for?? I would be heart broken I know if I were to loose them even though I have only had them about 7 weeks. Sorry to bring this up I understand it is a ssad time for the ones that have lost. Condolences to Cereal Thriller and I hope you can get through this without to much heart ache. Cheers
codling99
all dogs are different, some terriers live to ages around 14 yeras old and higher, have know some mongrels living to 20 odd years old, some pedigree dogs last around 7 -10 years, but as humans mate, they go when their ready ,depending on health and how they have lived. dustyfox
My mum's retriever cross lived for 14 yrs she died last year very friendly dog she was. Dogs life span depends on its lifestyle and that as well as the breed. DF
WGD
Generally speaking the larger the breed the shorter the lifespan. I would expect 12 - 14 years from cockers; I had a welsh springer who went to 17. Taking the extremes, normally you'll see say Danes 6 - 8 and say Jack Russells 16 - 20. gdunc
I've a work mate who's lab is still just hanging in there at 15 (but sadly with not long to go). He was still picking up when 13! They decided to let him spend his last days in luxury in the house by the fire but he got anxious and wanted back out to his kennel where he'd been all his life.
