Harnser
Hi all, Just out of interest, I was wondering if there is any way to research a shotguns history, ie; when and where it was made and any previous owners etc Thanks in advance chris The serial number would can tell you a lot about a gun if you contacted the maker, and of course the police would or should know previous owners . stokie
Not 100% sure but i think an RFD can tell you . I once took out a loan gun while i was waiting for my new one to arrive . When he did me a letter for a 72 hour loan his computer told him that this gun had had 23 previous registered keepers
clayman
Depends on how old the gun is and whether the manufacturers records still exist. For instance, E J Churchill still hold the manufacturing records for my 1936 Hercules, and I have been able to establish its full ownership history ( only three owners) as a result. Since the '90s the serial and progression of a gun has had to be recorded on police records, but until recently these were held at county level only, so tracing the progression of a gun when it is sold outside one licensing authorities area to another could be difficult, and I suspect the detail would be data protected anyway ie, you might get the dates of sale and area, but nothing more. Same will apply to retailers / trade records - so unless the owners of guns transfer them with a "log book" giving their details I think finding out ownership history for most guns is going to be impossible. God bless the data protection act! RFD Surrey
