Good DVD for novices

Hi :)

I bought "Clay shooting for the beginner, intermediate & advanced shot" DVD off ebay with Rod Brammer in it from Shalden School, he comes across really well and gives some good tips (in my opinion) it was good to see the guy being taught making similar mistakes to me, 3 DVDs £12 quid well spent me thinks

(no not on commission  )

This isn't the one set in the 1980's at some shooting ground in the far far South West is it? It features some dim wit in an original Toyota Celica who steadfastly refuses to wear hearing protection and waves the gun around quite worryingly, all tutored by some crusty Devonite whose contribution to the video series seems to be "behind it, over it or in front of it".

Regretably I purchased said box set (I think there is five of the bloody things) shortly after taking up clay shooting about three years ago. It ranks as the biggest waste of money since I bought a road angel for £400.

My dear wife bought for my birthday Mr Digweeds "digging for gold" and I'd venture that was her biggest waste of money as well. I've only watched the first five minuetes

I don't believe there can be good educational DVD's for shooting as everyone has there own particular style. If there was one that showed the theory of each type of shot I think that would be more helpful, as we could all see what was supposed to happen to the shot string in relation to the line of the target.

Still each to their own and I'm pleased to see the DVD has given you some help.

I think the set of 5 DVDs that Boondock refers to is a different set :)

I agree with Boondock that that set of 5 is a waste of space, as he says, you can't learn anything from it :

"You missed that one, didn't you Liam?"

"You missed again Liam"

"You're not ******* listening, are you Liam?"

"Left a bit Liam"

I've seen the 3 set of DVDs that Badgerpig is talking about on Ebay and wondered what they were like. I must confess to being rather put off by the Liam Dale set of 5, but it's interesting to hear a different point of view.

 guess you wont be interested in buying it off me when Im finished eh Boondock? :)

dont know if its the same set as this is a series of 3?

I must admit Im a total newbie to shooting so I wouldnt know a a turkey from a ptarmigan yet

but as a newbie I thought the coach explained things well about moving up through the target and not snatching at it, different chokes etc . Ive had a few lessons and although this was covered at the ground I found it useful to have it spelled out in black and white

I'll reserve judgement till Ive had a bit more experience

cheers

Is that Jim Kerr from Simple minds in your avatar?

Or his brother Wayne?

Back on topic, bought one of those 3 DVD sets, what a load of rubbish! Cannot teach anybody anything if you're not shooting the gun yourself. Simply listening (watching) the ramblings of said yokel to a learner can't possibly teach a third party anything.

Shot my best ever score today, largely because my mentor was advising me and I could act upon his advice, I doubt anybody else learned anything. :ermm:

Funniest part of the DVD is where the old codger tells Liam that he should be calling PULL for his own clays.

Then just as Liam is forming the P sound the old boy leans across him and shouts PULL !! lol

Also tickled my fancy - what a div.

Mine is the 3 disc set and it's just a compressed version of the Liam Dale/Rod Brammar Clay Coach series. The final disc, "Advanced" featuring a very young looking bearded Carl Bloxham esq (no sign of Liam Dale here) and a similarly young looking Ian Coley is worth a look IMHO but my set became 1 very quickly :cry1:
