tuck1
Hi Because it's been such a long time since I've had ferrets I'd like some opinions on the ferret finders out there. Back in the day, there was only the one choice - the good old Deben MK1. I know things have moved on a little bit now, but I have no experience of the newer models - from what I hear the MK2 was rubbish, the MK3 is ok? Your thoughts please. I know there's a few MK1's on Ebay, but if the MK3's are ok I'll spend the cash. Buy cheap, buy twice! By the way, for all you terrier bunch, have you tried Bellman and Flint gear yet? Brilliant! If there was in ferret size I'd have it!
Ferret Master
The MK2 is indeed POO. I use a MK3 and other than a snapped battery connector which needs to go back for repair I cannot fault it. I wouldn't go ferreting without it as its an invaluable tool in the ferreters kit bag but it isn't the be all and end all of ferreting. It isn't always spot on with distance estimation but I'm always bang on top of the ferret with it so just take care you don't break through onto the ferret too violently with the tip of the spade if the knocker box (or in the MK3's case bleeping box) is saying it's deeper than it is. But by the sounds of things you know about digging etc. anyway. As for the Bellman and Flint sets I have heard good reports about them from the terrierboys as well so if they exapnded their market into ferret locators I would be interested in trying one. Hope this helps a bit. FM
monkeyboots
mk3 great for the ferreting but forget it for the terriers agree the bellman and flint is brilliant the mk3 can be a bit out on the correct depth but is always back on top of the ferret

tuck1
Thanks all. Very helpful, I'm a bit of an old stick in the mud with things, I like to research everything to death, and this is the best place to do it! Looks like a MK3 for me then. I'll be aware of the depth issue, it always worries me when I see folk digging hell for leather with less than a foot to go, with terriers or ferrets!
