MK38
Mine asked what it was bolted on with (4 Rawl bolts in the wall and 2 coach screws in the floor ) said 'that shouldn't move then' and then proceeded to tug and pull it , with the door open so he could get a better purchase! ..... and he was a big bloke He left happy it wouldn't move Big difference between Rawl bolts ( masonary fixing anchors) and Rawl plugs ( little plastic plugs for screws)!! Yellow Bear
Lot of discussion - but it all depends what you are fixing to - I have found that the brick on any internal skin if my current abode shatters/cracks if you use rawlbolts, however is you use industrial nylon plugs 8/10mm with 6mm coach screws, the fixing pulls the brick from the mortar, before the fixing pulls from the brick. I am involved in hanging a lot of different things from slabs or walls, and you have to know the material before you can say, without doubt, this is the only way. gixer1
I put my first cabinet in by cutting the plasterboard away and sinking the cabinet into the wall, i then put in 6 x 70mm screws with repair washers in the cabinet and fixed it with 2 screws ito the timber joists in the floor, my FEO told me it was to be secure to a point where you could not get it off with "basic household items" such as kitchen knives etc, my second cabinet was screwed directly to the floor in a wardrobe and was also fine and my ammo safe is one of the £19.99 electronic safes from Aldi's and again screwed to the floor. MK38
You are quite right Yellow bear, it does matter what the wall is made of before any real recomendations are made... my walls are 9" solid brick and took the Rawlbolts very well. I use all sorts of fixings in my job as well, and yes the industrial type of plug you mention would do the job... was just trying to make it clear that every day plugs and screws might not be up to it. I'm sure the new type of screw bolt ( the sort that doesn't require a plug ) would be good as well.... can't remember there name at the moment! J@mes
I left my keys in the locks when my FEO came around, and he didnt mention it. I used chemical anchor and threaded rod to fix mine to the thermalite blocks in the loft, as rawl bolts pop the blocks apparently!
