Dangermouse
Hi All I have just got my 1st shotgun and eager to learn / practice all disciplines of clay pigeon shooting. Are there any decent shooting grounds that you can recommend please in the Yate / Chipping Sodbury / Bristol area?! At present I travel down to Mendip Shooting Ground - it's good but would prefer something a bit nearer if possible or at least my side of Bristol!!! thanks

Dangermouse
Been to Ladyswood - it's very corporate and the clays are not verychallenging!!! I was talking to one of the instructors who stated most people visiting Ladyswood are business types in there Aston Martins or Bentleys so dont want to spend loads of money and miss everything - plus the organisers dont want them to miss everything or they wont come back!!! I am far from owning an Aston so prefer shoots for more of the 'common' man!!!

JonnyR
Hi, Can't say I disagree with you, although their high tower will give anyone a run for their money. I shoot a lot at Barbury, which is probably a little far for you - nr Swindon, but has some seriously tough stuff. A friend of mine likes Mendip nr Wells as it has a lot of variety - DTL, Sporting, Skeet etc. I have heard that Wylye valley is very tough and good for it too. cheers, Jon. Taff Mason
i agree with BOTCH. i recently became a member at south wales 2000, and its a really good ground. every one is really nice and helpfull if you want advice. im pretty new to clay shooting so i just go up into the top field where there are about 7 stands of sporting. its all sheltered as well so you can shoot in any wether. and either voice activated or on a button with optional delay if you shoot alone. i travel there every weekend from chippenham and it takes about an hour. allthegearandnoidea
I shoot at Bristol Clay shooting www.bristolclayshooting.com which does English Sporting on a Sunday morning. Pretty close to Yate etc. as they are by Charfield one week and Kingswood (not the one in Bristol) the other week. They used to do skeet there on a Thursday but were then told they could only shoot each ground once a fortnight because of the noise but I think they are looking for an alternative location to start it up again. Windknot
www.woodspringbayshoot.com About 10 minutes from Junction 21- Dennis and Ian put on a good shoot shoot every fortnight. Next shoot is this Saturday (19th). Fibre wads only, but they have carts for sale. See you there? Jakes
