Markio
Beta-blockers. Basically anything that slows down the heart I'd guess. If memory serves, there was a bit of a hoo-ha about that sort of thing in golfing circles a few years ago... They'd juist take a few uneeded drugs to calm themselves down and relax a bit. You would not want to get speeded or coked up if you were in a shooting sport. No, not at all. Weren't Beta Blockers the choice for snooker players years ago? edit to sort bad grammer. Lucid
Voted No, Having shot .22 prone since 1995, starting with Uni club equipment which never fitted properly, it is true that jackets, slings and even sight elements play a part in getting higher and higher scores, however it's still a human pulling the trigger, controlling breathing etc. We've all seen the people out there with all the gear ... putting in a 73 and the shooter with a Martini putting in a 98 As has been previously mentioned, when all the finalists get 99% score or higher, then perhaps something needs to be done, however as these people are selected on their shooting ability to represent their country, I would hope that they can hit near perfect scores !! I shoot FT and Clay as my escape from the jackets and sling world, where it's a relief to grab a gun and some ammo and just go shooting with out carting a whole suitcase of shooting equipment with me !! MJN
ummm, I take beta blockers, does that mean I can't compete against any of you lot ? as I have an unfair advantage ! M.
Bagsy
I can't believe people would take drugs which affect their heart rate if they have no medical reason to do so - surely they're playing a very dangerous game?

No you're alright, I've seen you shoot I fully agree with the comments made apart from a few points. 1) you cannot only drop points, you do not start with a maximum score and then lose points. You start with nothing and then each score adds to that. 2) What is wrong with using equipment to aid what you are doing? A sling only supports the weight of the rifle and forms a rest with your arm. How many of you have a bipod on your rifle. 3) while the bull itself cannot get any smaller the 9 ring could, this wuld mean using outward gauged scoring anything less than a perfectly central shot would be out. This is why outward gauging was introduced. If we still used inward gauging then nearly everyone who shoots prone smallbore rifles at tragets would acheive perfect scores everytime they shot. 4) The V bull (fullbore) or X ring is used on outdoor targets now and it is another way of sorting out maximum possible scores

M. i agree, it always gets spilled on my scope joking aside, i dont think people understand the dangers of performance enhancing drugs, they are really dangerous and should be outlawed. Devilishdave
My boss does modern pentathalon and one of the disciplines is the 10m air pistol and to be honest I found it quite difficult. But if no one else managed to acheive an HPS at the Olympics then I guess she did well. I remember about 20 years ago to many people were getting 100 out of 100 so they made the ring in the middle for the bull slightly smaller.
