vole
I know many of you have had dogs for years but our new pup is such a major landmark in my families life. She is 9weeks old .Just got her home and my daughter is over the moon. Got her 1st jabs in the morning and getting advice off the dog owners we know. Is there anything specific to JRT,s you gents can pass on as a handy hint to a happy healthy dog? She is mostly to be a pet but I do want her to be a rough shooting buddy. ps we have a cat. Thanks!!! AndyCM
looks a vicious beast I put my Jack off going down holes from an early age - still has a good sniff but won't go past his neck. He gets used for beating and rough shooting and I didn't want him disappearing at every hole. Best of luck getting yours into the swing - intro to gun fire should be planned a bit. I walked mine up to a clay shoot from a long way off (with lots of patting on the way) + some other gentle introductions. Now he hears the gun cabinet keys from whereever he is and goes nuts when I get the gun out. Worked well They sure are characters AndyCM

ME
We have a Parson JRT. He is just a family dog but great fun. He is 12 now and still attacks the post coming through the letterbox with the same gusto he did when we was a puppy. He is knocking on a bit now, has lost a few teeth and has breath that would could curdle milk. They are great dogs and very intelligent. Enjoy your new family member EDIT: Ours is the same colouring as yours and has the same spot next to his tail. I chose him because he wee'd on the missus when she picked him up - I assumed that he must have been a good judge of character ! vole
She seems really placid. Not barked once in the 6 hours we have had her. The mother was a character and walked on back legs like a circus dog.The cat has given her a wide berth . Only one hiss but no swipes so off to a good start. Cant wait to take her out on the lead. Bought the Purina dried puppy food which she likes and seems good value. She is having a kip in her new bed. I never anticipated how the whole house would change and intend to do a good job of this. ME
Only one hiss but no swipes so off to a good start. Give it time We had a Westie too (now departed), the JRT used to jump all over him and hang off his jowels. Dont worry about the cat, they are nimble enough to get out of the way. Our JRT shakes like the one in the banned VW ad - . (lefty RSPCA types got it banned). We just put it down to pent-up nervous energy - he is like a coiled spring ! vole
We were going to get a Border Terrier but the cost, distance and the smaller size of the Jack Russell kind of clinched it. Its a bit of therapy too for my kid who has just lost the worlds best Auntie and her delight is priceless . Very encouraging to hear all the good stuff about them. Even at 9weeks I can see they are amazing. Already started responding to commands, kind of. Cheers!!

Cheers!! personally I reckon you made a good choice, everyone seems to be buying borders and i'm not entirely sure why. A decent Jack makes a far better house / fun dog. As for the barking give the little guy a chance soon you'll know as soon as anyone gets to the front or back gate
vole
Been the vets. Not a squeak out of her. She also seems to mainly do her biz in the back garden which is great. Off to work now but now the Mrs and kid can take over. Thanks for sharing the new pup! Edited September 11, 2008 by vole21
