George1990
Hi chaps Wanna get started pigeon shooting. What are the bare necessities? The crop is currently maize which from what i gather is no good, but it's soon to be harvested and barley or wheat is most likely to be seeded. Is this good for shooting on over winter? I don't want to spend lots of money (what with the price of carts) so would some shell decoys do, perhaps on bouncy sticks? Sorry for lots of questions, but thanks for any advice! Trussman
You won't go wrong with buying a dozen good quality shell decoys to start off with. When you have some experience thats the time to buy stuff like a magnet and flappers. Just remember to get some decent kit. If it's any good, it'll last you a long time. Happy decoying
Salop Matt
Some netting and 6 poles to, may be a seat and game bag.
Cosd
I use 12 decoys bought on the auction site for about £18 plus postage. I've given them a lick of matt paint and they work absolutely fine. Get a decent net and the poles you can but from Wilkinsons for £2.00 each. Use an old bucket upside down for somewhere to sit. Don't forget to cover up well, hands and face, very important. Get these few basics and get out on the field and enjoy.... You can leave the expensive equipment till later when you are ready to spend more.
George1990
Thanks Just got to wait for the maize stubble to be ploughed and the new crop planted. Or would they come to maize stubble if they saw their plastic counterparts supposedly finding food? Anyone decoyed on it before? Might be that they are finding better food somewhere else. Guest topshot_2k
Pigeons will feed on whats about. For kit buy a camo net, 12decoys and some poles unless you have some you can make. The trick is to watch the pigeons, dont just setup expecting them to come to the decoys. Watch the field/trees and see where they fly/land. If you get it right you should have some fun Good luck.
