Pecker Neck
The Hawke 3-9X50 IR scope that came with my AA S410 .22 12ftp rifle is a bit lame and it hasn't got parallax adjustment on it. So i'm looking at getting a new scope i'm thinking of one of the following two:- NEW JSR 3-9x50 PX Pro Illuminated With finger adjustable locking & resetting turrets, PX adj. crystal clear from just 5 yards on full mag! Illuminated (RED, GREEN & BLACK) glass etched mil dot reticule (just the center of the reticule illuminates). Free flip up lens covers and free sunshade. Add a gunlight and hunt 24/7! or JSR 6-24x50 PX Illuminated (NEW MODEL - Now With Glass Etched Reticule and Sunshade) With finger adjustable locking & resetting turrets, PX adjustable. Illuminated (RED, GREEN & BLACK) GLASS ETCHED mil dot reticule with flip up covers. Crystal clear from under 10 yards on full mag! Free flip up lens covers. 75mm Sunshade included. Crystal clear from under 10 yards on full mag! Which would you go for? Is 6-24X50 over kill for a sub 12ftp rifle or will i benifit from it? I'm shooting on a 25yard range at my local club at the mo but will eventually be shooting futher than that when i go rabbitng in the future. Which one should i go for guys? Thanks for any replies

Erik Hamburger
Hi, For hunting you need no more magnification than x4 or x6. Therefore, in my view, any scope with a magnification up to x12 or even x24 is a waste of your money. Also, I believe very few people who hunt with air rifles actually use the illimunated recticle - I certainly don't. Therefore, as above, the IR is a gimmick and a waste of money. What is important is how much light you can capture (buy the largest aparture you can affort) so 50mm or more. And the build quality of course... monkeyjaimz
JSR 6-24x50 PX Illuminated (NEW MODEL - Now With Glass Etched Reticule and Sunshade) With finger adjustable locking & resetting turrets, PX adjustable. I've got this scope, and it's cracking for the money. I've had 3 Nighteaters, they are very good but never held zero between hunting trips so always had to re-zero at the start of each session. I've had 3 Nighteaters, they are very good but never held zero between hunting trips so always had to re-zero at the start of each session. Never had a scope lose zero at all and had both pcp and spring rifles, as long as you don't knock them about they're fine. I've got 2 Hawke scopes and like both of them and a couple of richter optiks which are good. The other guys right about the magnification too for an air rifle, you go out to these ranges and you see your quarry, take your eye off the scope to have a look and you can't see what your hitting!!! Stick to a simple 3-9x50 it's plenty. As for illuminated scopes, you'll leave it on put it in your bag and then when you come to use it next time it's dead as a door ****. I know as I've got 2 and the batteries are dead in both and guess what, i never get round to replacing them. A good optic will give you that extra 1/2 hour light that a cheaper scope with illumination wont.

I use x10 mag for day to day hunting etc and higher mags for FT etc. And I use the green IR during dusk and when lamping with the red filter. Cant explain why all three of the nighteaters i've owned lost zero between trips, but they they certainly had the habit of doing so.
monkeyjaimz
i would stay away from jsr scopes hawke would be better imo. I've had two, and they've out performed a lot of more expensive scopes including Hawke, Nikko and MTC.

Pecker Neck
Thanks for your opinions so far chaps, so i seem to get the impression that 3-9X50 will be plenty good enough for a 12ftp air rifle. correct?
