pbickerd
I have been thinking of buying a reloading kit and loading some .357mag for a long barreled taurus revolver. Whilst looking arround for bullet heads and brass etc I came across hollowpoints, semi-jacketed and FMJ hollowpoints. Are these even legal? See links: Semi Jackted FMJ Hollowpoints Are they legal? And do you need something special on your ticket to posess them once they have been loaded? Thanks guys.
Rem223
You would need expanding ammunition on your FAC and to get that you would have to put forward a reason why you need expanding in that calibre. I think you would have trouble explaining that you wanted them to shoot rabbits with expanding .
pbickerd
Thats what I thought. Do purchases of bullet heads go on your FAC like ammo purchases? This would appear to be a bit of a back door to get whatever type of ammuntion you like. I'm not saying I would do this, I was just a bit shocked to even see hollowpoint .357s for sale over the internet!
mr smith
You are not allowed expanding ammo for target use. These bullets are still allowed for those who have these calibres for fox,and very unlikely to get a fox condition for a long barrelled pistol. njc110381
You can purchase target and non expanding heads in any calibre you like without a FAC. When you want expanding you have to have the calibre on your certificate and also the condition to buy expanding ammo. An expanding head is counted as one round of ammunition, even before it's loaded into a complete round. It may appear you can order it, as the MidwayUK site allows you to order expanding ammo. I tried and got a return e-mail later saying the order had been cancelled, and if I wanted the ammo it would have to be delivered via my local RFD (so he can check my paperwork). Not as simple as it seems
pbickerd
Thanks nic, That explains it then. Just seemed wacky that you could buy the bits. Although, it is still a bit weird that you can buy normal FMJ or lead ammo components without an FAC!?
