pbickerd
Hi all, I have my eye on a mossberg 590. I know its not the most practical of gun since it has a 24.5 inch barrel and cannot accept chokes but I already have a sensible clay shooting gun - Miroku mk38 sporting teague. My question is, would it even be worth bothering trying to shoot skeet with this thing given that it has no choke so I would just be using an open barrel? Thanks Paul Edited September 25, 2008 by pbickerd
alexm
The shot pattern through true cylinder should be fine at the sort of range you will be shooting skeet Edited September 25, 2008 by alexm
pbickerd
Do you think the short barrel will cause any issues other than it being a bit weird to swing arround?
throdgrain
My mate has a 590 and has shot skeet with it many times, the only issue is the pairs, with it being a pump action of course. All in all no bther just do it
pbickerd
Im **** at pairs anyway so it shouldnt make much difference
Browning
Why not just use your Miroku for skeet Paul? Stick with one shotgun and you'll get used to it faster.
pbickerd
You are of course right But it doesnt stop me wanting one. I will give it a bit more thought.. Anyone know if Saddlery and Gun room will even ship to another RFD? That would put and end to this pretty quick as they seem to be the only place that will sell 590's anyway and travelling to Kent from the Midlands to pick one up makes it quite a bit more expensive. Pretty sure they will, they'll do it for hushpower guns, they told me so today (guess what I am buying next ) ZB
vole
They ship to rfd,s regularly. They have done several fixes for me and are efficient to say the least(I am in Cheshire). Have a chat with Jon.
clayman
Choke has nothing to do with barrel length, it is entirely about the pattern diameter at different distances. Skeet is usually shot with cy, so if that what you have got in it, fine. Traditionally, short barrels where considered better for fast swinging, hence 26" were the favorite length for many years for dedicated skeet guns, and Churchill method that employs a smooth fast swing to create the impression of no lead, requires short barrels, hence Churchill specialty of 25" barrels. Go for it.
