Topgunners
Well after Friday's bramah day on the beans, I set off about 7.00am for the next field along which was being combined and hopefully finished; having a "mooch" on the way.. When I arrived I spotted a car parked up in the hedge-row and 2 shooters getting their gear out of the motor. I drove across the field and lo and behold another PW member and his mate was about to set up. I had a chat for a short while and then went "drive-abouts". I went everywhere and not a Pigeon in the sky or on the ground. I had covered over 50miles driving up and down lanes to no avail. I stopped for a coffee and a read of the newspaper whilst the fog lifted some more. I popped back to see how the other members were getting on and they had shot a big fat Zero. I left with the comment "good luck" and decided to head out in another directon where the wheat had been baled but not picked up. This is now about 11.30am I got to the fields and spotted a lot of rook activity on the top fields; only to see a Jeep parked up along the hedge and a hide set up in the bottom field. I drove across to the spot thinking "this is getting familiar" and had a chat with the 2 guys. They said they had been there 3 hours for 4 birds so I said I would set up on the top fields for some blackies and maybe bounce the birds around. I set up the crow deeks and a magnet and started shooting almost straight from the off and after 30 or so I could hear the other shooters having a go in the distance as well. I was getting the Rooks and Jackies dropping in to the deeks and the pigeons flying past up to about 4.00pm . And then the rooks seemed to stop but a lot more pigeons were flying past. So I moved the crow decoys out to my far left and swapped them for a pigeon layout directly in front of me. This worked brilliantly as now the pigeons were dropping in like dive-bombers and I was also getting the odd rook/jackdaw as well. I packed up at 18.30pm for 69pigeons and 47 blackies. Top day; and I am only wondering how many the other chaps had , as they had shot steady up till about 17.00pm Dave K Edited September 28, 2008 by Topgunners
