AdamHall
with out seeing the car i would'nt like to say but chance are a bit of both , the pressure plate has weakened and the bearing has broken and is getting jamed in the clutch hence the jerking and metal on metal noise but as i have already said without seeing the car i could'nt be 100% , chance are you will need a new clutch but see what the aa say and go from there. chances are it will need a new one and depending on where you take it will be of the road for a couple of days hope you get sorted
myzeneye
dont know the car mate, (not a mech either..) but is it hydraulic or cable clutch.... could be a problem there... i guess if once its (the clutch) engaged and driving, if its pulling then the plates are ok... could be the clutch springs or hydraulics/cable not giving correct operation... ? there are some mechanics on here though who will help, im sure its nothing drastic though... webber
Gav I've followed this post with some interest. As I understand it: You purchased a car with an AA warranty. Car breaks down, fault believed to be clutch. AA recover car and it is taken to their nominated repairer. Clutch is replaced, and fault rectified. You have to pay the bill as AA change their mind about paying, claiming that the clutch is one unit. I've never seen a one piece clutch, but from what you described as symptoms, it didnt sound as though the clutch was slipping, which would ingicate wear. Rather, jumping which would indicate a breakage. Do you have the old clutch? You were deprived of your free market instincts by your car being taken to the AA nominated repairer, whom by the sound of it have taken advantage of the situation. Maybe you should run this past Mungler who is the PW legal bod. webber
