Cosd
Stupid I know, but having finished a bad morning's shoot I put my shottie in one of the pockets in my large carry all for the long hike back to the car; Got to the car, the farmer was fixing the harvester and stopped to say hello, put the carry all down and it tips over Heavy bag full to the brim lying on the floor with gun on the bottom Anyway, the forend has got a small dent where a sharp stone has imprinted its corner onto (about 4mm square). I know it's a game gun and not everyone's favourite (Browning Medalist) but I've only recently bought it from Straightshooter and it has been tru oiled and was pristine. Is there any way to repair it?
seb
You can usually steam dents out. I have done it myself with small piece of wet cotton wool or tissue put in the dent then the tip of an electric clothes iron used to heat the spot up. I managed to get quite a deep dent out by doing it a number of times, it works by swelling the grain that has been crushed.
the_commoner
as above i have used a damp tea towel and then iron them out
Windknot
You can do the same using white vinegar to raise all but the most agressive dents, but keep it away from metalwork.
Cosd
Thanks guys, I will try these methods, I have read about steaming before but wasn't sure about such a small dent so I will try this first.
straightshooter1
hello bud firstly leave a wet piece of tissue the size of the dent on the dent over night then goe down the ironing route it will help the process as from the sound of it its a bit deep
Cosd
hello bud firstly leave a wet piece of tissue the size of the dent on the dent over night then goe down the ironing route it will help the process as from the sound of it its a bit deep Thanks mate, I will try this and let you know how I get on. My guess is that I will need to repeat the process a few times as the dent is about 3-4mm across and the same in depth......
