jntree Posted November 1, 2008 Report Share Posted November 1, 2008 hey all hope alls well "was beating for one of my local shoots today and noticed that alot of pigeons were feeding on turnips anyway after begging the keeper for a few minutes he has now given me pemission to shoot his land providing i keep clear of the game covers (fair enough) has anyone esle had any good days over turnips and is there anything i should do as i've never shot over them before?? codling99 Posted November 1, 2008 Report Share Posted November 1, 2008 ive shot over turnips(sugar beet) with steve b wales,and we had a few pigeons . if they feeding there mate,you ll have um. just put decoys on sticks ,so their above leaves,should have a few if they about,all depends on if theres anything else about that they can eat i think. Whitebridges Posted November 2, 2008 Report Share Posted November 2, 2008 (edited) We call 'em stubble turnips if that is what you mean? They are drilled straight on wheat/barley stubble. After they germinate and form, farmers turn the sheep on them. They love eating the tops and the turnip and ****/ ****e all over the land which is a good way of putting nutients back in to the land. We don't see it so much these days as modern farming puts all the goodness back via a bag of fertiliser. Yes, pigeons love stubble turnips - big time.
