Dirty Harry
I got my new GWP pup from RED today. I was a bit worried my Schnauzer would have a bit of a go at him but so far so good. He is bigger than the Schnauzer and he is only 10 weeks old. Dirty Harry
He is called Rudi. The wife says he will be an outside dog but he is asleep on her lap on the sofa as I type!!! I hope to train him to be my shooting buddy but I think I need a good book. Harry
Gully
That's funny, mine's called Rufus. I took loads of pictures but my PC that they'reon is in bits at the moment. I'll make a post when back online. Good luck with him. Did you know their Granddad is called Normbar Vallhalle who win Crufts Best of breed 3 times and came in the top6 gundogs? Harry mine has getting on laps down to an art with one leg at a time and creeping up she goes to my mum during the day and she's usually found on her lap. For a biggish dog they are surprisingly good round the house and you don't seem any where near so big, mine can even still curl up and mostly fit in the cats bed. Ypu'll need a good book and plenty of time but mine hasn't been bad so far though having a bitch sometimes is easier. p.s is anyone keeping theirs entire as some point in the future i'll be looking for a stud dog so always useful to know especially as mine came from the opposite end of the country so may well be suited as far as not being too closely related Edited November 11, 2008 by al4x

You could leave the dog for a few days when Rudi is old enough but Gloucestershire is a bit of a drive for you. Anyone recomend a good book for training GWP's. Boytleburgher
A good place to start is "The Versatile Gundog" by Guy Wallace. I would also suggest you look up your nearest GWP /GSP training club. You will pick up lots of info from people who have gone through the same process. Very nice pup. Hope you have lots of fun... It brings back memories, my GSP bitch will turn two in DEC. Nige Edited November 13, 2008 by Boytleburgher
