Hello there,

hi everone,

Approximately 6 months ago, I went on a clay pigeon shoot half day event thingy and loved it straight away!....took a bit of getting used to holding the gun properly (i am quite a short female you see) but after a shaky start, I didnt do too badly...this sunday just gone I decided to go to Rectory Shooting ground in Enfield, herts and did the 50 cartridges option for £30...went through them in around 30mins and although my score was not an embarrassment at 50%, I wondered if anyone might know of a club or somewhere that would provide a bit of coaching that isnt going to break the bank?

I am totally ignorant and know nothing about guns and would also appreciate any advice as to where the best place is to start reading and gaining some knowledge?

Dont think there is a book entitled "clay pigeon for idiots"!

Good forum by the way and would be good to meet fellow shooters in the herts area as feel a bit of a saddo on my own?...my partner has no interest whatsoever.

lastly, are there many female shooters or is it very male-orientated?

thanks for any help :hmm:

Hi Joyoge,

Good to see another Herts shooter on the Forum.

There are plenty of clubs around that welcome newcomers, have a look at the CPSA website which gives lists of clubs & grounds in your area, also lots of other info on the site you may find useful....are you looking for a nearly new Skoda, perhaps..?? (Sorry private joke.. :hmm: )

I'm afraid Lady shooters are sadly under represented in our sport, but I do know one or two gooduns that can beat most of the men, particularly those from Essex, so get stuck in and have fun, it gets very addictive..!!

Cat.

P.S. - Fill in your profile, you'll get more replies that way. :P

Hi,

You should find the following links a good source of books and videos :

http://www.ospschool.com/index.html

https://www.shootingbooks.co.uk/index.asp?

I can personally recommend Gil and Vicki Ash , their books and videos make a lot of sense and will give you a solid base for your shooting. Nevertheless , I would still recommend a course of lessons to set you off in the right direction
