jweaver
I will be getting my SGC next week, so I am going to go shopping. When I had my clay lessons, I had some passive defenders which were fine, but i had to keep taking them off to listen to instructions.. Then the next day I went on a game shoot and was loaned some electronic defenders and they were amazing. Since then, I have been able to try some cheap ones which you see on Ebay for £18 and they are awful. Not only do they not offer much protection, but the electronics are crude (not surprising when you see that there are simply 3 capacitors and a transister involved) I am tempted to treat myself to some electronic defenders and after doing some searching, it seems that teh Peltor Sportac are the ones to go for.. But does anyone know who is the cheapest supplier? I can find them for between £90 and £150, but I am sure I saw them cheaper... Can anyone recommend a supplier? webber
Let me know the outcome. I'm currently also considering a pair. webber
Baldrick
I bought mine from here http://www.showcomms.co.uk/products-sale-p...CFU4g3godelapDA The green ones are harder to come by, and more expensive, than the black version. Both models also come with fluorescent orange covers, if you want to look like an American. The SportTacs are great, but I wish they made a reassuring beep to tell me that they were on. Out of interest, when they are switched off, they still work don't they? The model that I used acted like passive defenders when they were either switched off, or the volume was at its lowest and by increasing the volume, this only increased the volume of what you could hear, but made no change to their ability to 'block' noise. I would assume that all electronic defenders are the same, as they must be 'fail safe' (i.e when powered off, still block noise). Jim145
Yes, they are just like regular ear defenders if they are switched off. Mine beep when you switch them on and off. They also power off automaticly after a couple of hours - in-case you forget! I got mine from here http://www.best4headsets.co.uk/category/as...619/af/page.htm They are expensive, but they are also fantastic!
Baldrick
The fact that mine don't beep worries me. Time to investigate.

Jim145
Yes, those are the same as mine. The only difference is mine come with green and orange shells, rather than black and orange. The orange ones are for deer hunting
jweaver
Perfect.. I don't mind the colour really.. Black, Green, Orange, Red.. I don't really mind.. Infact, if I did have the choice, I probably couldn't make my mind up anyway.. So I am happy the choice is made for me It works out at around £50+£10 shipping which is MUCH cheaper than the UK.. However, there is always the risk of getting stung for Duty and/on VAT on arrival to the UK.. But fingers crossed that won't happen (especially near Xmas when Customs are going to be REALLY busy). Weirdly, there is an option for 'gift' on their site which is normally a way to get around duty.. However, if you click the box it says that you won't get any emails (as they don't want to spoil the surprise) but then you don't get charged shipping and they give you a 1-800 number to call to arrange it. So if you go down the route of "gift" you can't actually complete the transaction Thanks for the tip.. I am going to get them from the US for sure! Hardwoods Green
My local Shooting Ground (Doveridge ) is doing them at £115 i think.
Baldrick
Problem now investigated. The Peltors don't seem to work with rechargeable batteries, only Duracells. And they do indeed beep when they're switched on. So on the one occasion I've worn mine to date, I've been wearing an expensive pair of passive ear defenders. I feel like a right half-wit..... But they are bloody brilliant when they work. I could hear a sparrow scratching its nadgers in the next field, with those SportTacs turned right up. Ferret Master
I started wearing Sportac's a couple of months ago but I must say that they are not as 'tight' on the head and don't appear to form anywhere near as tight a seal as my old Deben passive ones did. jweaver
I have ordered them from the US support for $125.. Good price for sure but there is a risk of VAT+Duty on the way in. However, i am not starting to regret it.. After I placed the order I clicked on the link to "Surface Shipping" and their description of this is that they take 8-12 weeks... 2-3 months.. Surely not.. I have had many items shipped "surface" before and they have taken 8-12 DAYS. Did anyone else order them 'surface'? If so, how long did they take? At the end of hte day, if they are going to take 3 months, I would have preferred to spend an extra £20-£30 here and get them NOW! Jim145
Could you ring or e-mail them to confirm the delivery time? I wouldn't want to wait that either!
JohnGalway
The only delay with mine was because I wanted the green covers, they did tell me they didn't have them and would need to order special (as I'm a special kinda guy). Took a good long while but they kept in contact and all was well
Ferret Master
Pin pointed me in the direction of a company which sold them at a very very very good price. I will try and dig the link out. Incidently, I was having a play with my ear defenders earlier and hanve untucked the wire from inside the headband on both sides (if that makes sense to fellow users?) and I am now appearing to get a tighter fit. I will confirm my findings with live gunfire at the weekend. FM
Psyxologos
I just bought mine for £70 on ebay. They started off at £89 but I made a 'bset offer'. Other declined, this guy accepted. Make them an offer, you have nothing to lose.

So I can't find any history of them being available.... They are plenty of 'Tactical 6S' models.. But no 'Sportac'.. What am I missing??
