deny essex
Rape fields getting hit hard on one of my club farms, 3 of us set up on 3 different fields in the same area to keep them on the move, we peed off a thousand or more birds but they just did not want to play the game, usual rape shooting, hundreds passing over and by out of range and everything tried just would not bring many into gun range, i ended up with the best bag of 22 and a serious need for oxygen when I eventualy managed the long trek back to the motor. but never the less was enjoyable and a result was had for the effort. started with 10 plastics , added the magnet and bouncer and real birds to the pattern as shot, tried pattern alterations and re-positioning, 30 years shooting and still trying to find the elusive winter pigeon rape formula to pull more than just a few of the many in. Maybe i should have done the same as the week before when i had a better result and set up in the middle of the field , maybe next time . Catamong
My mate & I tried using 3 magnets, a flapper, 2 bouncer / floaters and 40 deeks on a field of wheat stubble a few weeks back, it worked very well, virtually every bird that came near the field came into the pattern, there weren't many about but we still had a modest bag of 65. Yet a fortnight ago I tried it again on rape and we had so many birds shy away, normally when they do that it means they've already been shot hard there and are wary, but I knew this wasn't the case in this instance. We still picked up 71 but we could have had double that if the birds weren't so shy. It's a strange game, I've been at it for many years now, but you still keep learning..!! Cat. seisobs
I've seen 2 or 3 small flocks in the last 4 weeks, no rape and hardly any pigeons in my area. At least you guy's can see them and at least get set up.
