old rooster
I've a Korando for sale, great for lugging the pigeon gear about, towing trailers etc. High spec vehicle with Mercedes 2.9litre Diesel engine and gearbox in it, hasn't done much off road work so it's in VGC and not beaten up. Briefly: 1998 (R Reg), 83,000 miles, Burgundy, Electric 4WD High/Low range (no need to get out and lock and unlock front hubs). Aircon, Towbar, Electric windows, Stereo radio cassette. On the road it's one of the quietest, smooth riding 4x4's I've driven, cruises at 70 and returns around 31mpg used sensibly. I also have a Fourtrak which I use and the Korando is a more practical everyday vehicle. Far better value than Land/Range Rovers which are notoriously unreliable and expensive to fix. I need £3,800 for it and need the drive space so it has to go soon, pics available and test drive to suit you if interested. I'm based in South Northants. Call 07798 525482 or email me for pics. Fisherman Mike
This motor is a bargain... I dont know Old Rooster but I know about the Korando it is bomb proof and that Mercedes Lump aint even run in at 83,000. It would pull a house down and they are incredibly reliable. If I hadnt just bought a 7 seater Terrano I would snap it up Rooster FM.
old rooster
Cheers Mike, you've obviously seen one of these then. For anyone looking for a big, tough 4x4 it's the mutts nuts. Nothing dodgy about the sale it's a genuine motor but I've got to reduce my "fleet". It's made by Ssangyong (Daewoo now), this seems to put some people off but the spec is ******* unbelievable, all the bells and whistles including Aircon, PAS, Disc brakes all round. Makes the Land Rover and Range Rovers of a similar age look silly price wise. Can't believe how smooth it is on the Motorway, as Mike says lot of heavy duty car for the money !!! (I should stress that I've never to my knowledge met Fisherman Mike and HAVE NOT bribed him to put his reply here )
Fisherman Mike
Only too pleased to spread some light on this much underrated 4 x 4 Rooster. I have had first hand experience of the Korando because my brother had one similar R reg. He bought it new and put 78,000 miles on the clock in three years. borrowed it for 4 months while he was in Canada on business and took it to france with the family touring in 2000. It was a pleasure to drive and never saw a mechanic apart from the 12,000 miles services in its time with us. His business took off in 2001 and he bought a £40,000 range rover whicch has been beset by problems ever since and has I belive had about 12 irregular trips to the dealer. Once when we were both shooting in the cotswolds he got bogged down in a clay stubble field fully loaded with prospective clients and no less than 4 different 4 x 4's drove by him before I stopped and pulled him out in in an Isuzu Trooper. One of them was the Korando then owned by a local farmer. I cant tell you the language and expletives which were being used by my brother. So p****d was he that he even tried to buy the korando back!!!! Hope you sell it and some one will get a great and much underrated 4 x 4 Cheers. FM. old rooster
So can we take it as read that you weren't too impressed with the Range Rover then Mike ? :( They are as much overated as the Korando is underated, amazing how easilly suckered in some people are by just the name of a product. Don't say too much more in praise of it or I'll not want to sell it, you could always mention it to your brother old chap. All the best. Devilishdave
I had a guy work for me and he had bought a new top of the rangeDiscovery and hed over 50 faults with it within a year it was so bad that Landrover eventualy gave him a brand new Range rover on the understanding that he signed to saay that he would not ge to the media with it. I have had 2 freelanders the firs was no problem for me but I sold it to a friend and she had to have new suspension and a new engine under waranty as well as 3 or 4 other more minor problems The second one was ok but had to go in for 7 recalls! And after that I still buy British Dave
old rooster
I rest my case !!! So when do you want to pick the Korando up Dave Is the Range Rover/ Freelander the only car where once the ashtray is full you tip out and keep the butts and chuck the car away ? Isn't Rover owned by BMW now ? Not very British if so. Edited January 27, 2005 by old rooster
ernyha
Isn't Rover owned by BMW now ? Not very British if so. You are a bit out of date Old Rooster, BMW bailed out a few years ago and the Landrover division is owned by Ford now. Very little of the motor industry is British now, in fact the only large bit I can think of is Rover Cars at Longbridge.

So are they any better now that Ford are in control ??, I don't think so !! I'm always out of date, hence my handle "old rooster"

old rooster
That's really funny cos I was watching one of the car progs on TV the other day and the X5 was rated as the worst car of the year. Apparently was "f" all use off road and a rotten drive on road. Maybe they weren't very astute on which bits they copied Sounds like the management were robbed at £1 !!!! Hope to have the car sold by then Dave, what bike you selling then ?
dunganick
the x5 was meant to be okish offroad, but its baby brother the x3 is dire, no ground clearance at all

old rooster
Isn't that a Kawasaki ?. My mate used to run a ZZR600 in his F2 outfit, won the New Era championship using the passenger I had the season before when I packed up. They won all but 2 races and were second in both of those. I remember watching him round Gerrards at Mallory and thinking that we'd be needing 2 slips and a gully to catch all the engine parts when it eventually let go. It used to really howl and all he did was change the oil and plugs regularly. Anyway I thought those rice burners were all supposed to be reliable always getting told what **** our Ducatis are yet I've done some miles on mine. Went down to Southern Spain with GF on the back with full luggage last year, had a great time. Hope you get it fixed soon.
Devilishdave
Yeh Kawasaki Heavy industries!! they are normaly bomb proof but mine blew at 17K!! old rooster
the x5 was meant to be okish offroad, but its baby brother the x3 is dire, no ground clearance at all You've got to consider the ridiculous prices of these German vehicles as well, I really don't understand why people pay so much for them as the BMW's in particular are certainly not that good. Korando has to be a great deal as it incorporates the Mercedes engine/gearbox in a far more sensibly priced package.

old rooster
Phew, had me worried there for a minute, just as well these things are reliable then, would be horrifying if the same applied to Land Rover, there wouldn't be one on the roads inside a fortnight

One good thing you can say for the Beemer is that they are rear wheel drive, much more fun than front wheel drive, specially when you turn the traction control off Still don't warrant the price though IMHO.
