depends where they are and where his feed is. Odds are they are there and feeding on something, look about and see where he is seeing them, there probably is too much food about to be worth baiting them but you should be able to find where they are feeding and you just want to be close enough to shoot them

with air rifle? .22 head shots HWS superdomes, at night night vision always works well for obvious reasons or filtered lamp look under the feeders and around bails. Try not to move around too much, take breaks they will think you have gone then come back out.

peanut butter smeared on some flat wood or a brick they have to stay there to eat it as they cant pick it up and run with it as they would with dog food and such like a few extra seconds to take aim and fire is invaluable when shooting rats as they really need head shots with an air rifle. Fialing that try a 410 that sorts the ******* out but a bit messy !!! great indoors though say a barn or feed shed...
