anser2
I have been out by 9.00 4 mornings over the past 2 weeks shooting over rape and despite fair numbers of pigeons about the bags have been poor. Yesterday morning just 6 between 9.00 and 1.00. So up well before dawn this morning hide built and decoys out by 7.00. 7.15 the first trio of pigeons came in and for the next hour and a half I had good steady shooting with about 40 birds down. It was a nice morning weatherwise so I stuck it out until 1.30 and ended with 52, but it just shows its worth getting in place and set up well before the first birds move at this time of year. lurcherboy
It feels weird though setting up before first light and the wind direction changes every time the sun gets up LB
Whitebridges
Seems to be the way this time of year anser2. A mate has been getting a few on the rape out Brinton way early on and they've had enough by lunchtime. Today we had a walked up day starting at 11am today over a bit of virgin set aside in Suffolk. Either side there are huge rape fields. Two of the lads that joined us had been on the pigeon in the morning (they both scored pretty well) and mentioned shooting in the afternoon had been dire. The temp is a big factor. It was 11c most of the time.Tee-shirt weather. There is a chance of some cold weather from the east over the next few days. A sustained cold snap will get 'em feeding hard all through the day. Fingers crossed. Nice bag of birds you had today well done.
