Bali
Hi I was cleaning some .223 cases today and decided to really get them shinning by giving them a good buffing with duraglit brass wadding, they came up a treat. My question is do I still need to lube the cases as they are now really smooth to touch, they chamber ok although I havn't fired any yet Nick

mr smith
Assuming you still need to re-size the cases you will need lube, the cases maybe smooth to touch but will still lubrication to go in and out of the die.You wouldn't polish the internals of a car engine then run it without oil. Bali
Good point time to get the lube out
polski
Are you full length sizing or neck sizing? I only use lube if full length sizing, I don't bother for neck sizing. Rick.
casts_by_fly
I stuck my first case over the weekend because I didn't lube. I had seated a bullet incorrectly (in an empty, unprimed case as I was checking OAL) and made a mess of the shoulder of the case (still not sure how I did it). I pulled the bullet and ran the case through my FL die. I figured since I had FL sized already and lubed when I did, that this shouldn't be a problem. Wrong. Case stuck bad and ripped the rim off the shell. I tried turning the die 90 degrees and lightly tapping on the decapper. Only ripped the other side of the rim off. I had to use the decapping rod as a punch with a hammer to get the case out. It didn't hurt the decapper aside from rolling over the back end from the hammer blows (I didn't have a mallet or block of wood). Lesson learned. If it is going into a FL die, it needs lubed every time. thanks rick
Bali
To answer ricks question I am only neck sizing but just as rick (thats odd 2 ricks) states I do not want to take a chance although I think you are pretty safe not lubing if only neck sizing. For the little effort involved in lubing I think I will carry on with the lube Thanks for the comments Nick Edited January 13, 2009 by Bali

Harnser
If you want your cases squeeky clean ,then put a teaspoon full of brasso in your cleaning media before tumbling . Cleaning media can be refreshed and cleaned by tying in an old pillow case and put into the washing machine .it can also be tumbled dried still in the pillow case . Harnser .
