Blackbart
I am after a new scope for my new rifle and was wondering what you are using out there ? Not going to spend a fortune because it will be used 95% at night and buying a s&b or the like is a waste of money for a lamping scope.Had a look at hawke nite eye or something like that. Any recommendations, must be reasonably high mag and robust
Beardo
i've got a Hawke Nite Eye and don't particularly like it, prefer the Walther 4-12x50 AO IR 30mm Scope that i've got (and it was cheaper) http://www.uttings.net/?categories/shootin...her_30mmir.html really nice and clear optics for lamping, mildot (i found the SR reticule on the Hawke too cluttered) amazing scope for £70 Edited January 13, 2009 by nickbeardo

Beardo
i've got a gorgeous old German Original 4x20 wide angle that i've had since i was 11!!! It used to be mounted on my Weihrauch HW35E (my dad got me both for the 11th birthday). Still crisp and clear and a beauty to shoot with 26 years later. Beardo
i'm pretty sure the Original scope is matt black finish - i lent it to a friend and must get it back! That Hawke SR12 8-24x56 is the same as the one i have, nice scope don't get me wrong, but it's over powered for air-rifle use and because of that, i find it's not so good on the light gathering side and prefer my Walther. It'll be going on my .17hmr when i get it as i think that kind of magnification is much better suited to FAC rifles.
LeeinVA
Nick your "Original" reminds me of an old Red field i have.. I got that when i was a boy too.. It was 1966 Christ am i old..
Beardo
the US military used to use Redfield's scopes in Vietnam, remember reading it in... http://www.amazon.com/Sniper-One-World-Com...527&sr=1-15 great book on the history of military sniping btw, well worth a read
Blackbart
Sorry to but in nick and lee. Why dont you get a room ? The scope will be going on cf and for ranges 150+,so i am looking at 12 mag up.
LeeinVA
damn son!! Did not mean to offend.. When you are lamping what candle power are you using? i would think that anything with a higher magnification would make it more difficult to see as they are light gathering to start with.. Am i not wrong with this? Why such a high power and what calibre is she being mounted to?
Blackbart
Not offended lee Its going on a 22-250 and the lamp is not scope mounted so there will be no back glare. Its a lightforce 170 that will be putting the light out. The high mag is because i will" hopefully" be taking some at long range. I have an old RWS scope off my old rifle its 18-40x50 and you can see plaque on their teeth from 200 yards away on high mag but it is playing up(losing zero a lot)so i am looking for a new one
