The pilot of that plane deserves a bloody medal !!!!

Do you reckon there might be some bird control jobs going at the airport now then?

Bird strikes arn't cheap in respect of lives and plane repairs-replacement. So Why do airfields not take bird controll seriously? They pay peanuts to airfield bird controllers or give the job to the fire section!

The bird strike was off the airfield as the plane was climbing.

I worked for the MoD as a ABCO (Airfield Bird Control Officer) for 7years at Europes busiest military airfield. We were a small unit of 3. We used to pride ourselves at only having a bird strike on the airfield once every 2 years, most of those were swifts, swallows and house martins which are very hard to control.

We had plenty of emergency landings from other aircraft with bird strikes though. Sea gulls being the favourite.

The costliest bird strike $270 million. A AWACS had multiple bird strikes (flock of geese) on take off from a airfield in Alaska, loss of all 24 on board.

UK's was 17 November 1980: Bird strike at Roseisle Forest, near Kinloss, Scotland. RAF Nimrod. XV 256 crashed on take off. The aircraft suffered a major bird-strike immediately after take off and crashed into a wooded are to the east of RAF Kinloss air base. Sadly, both pilots were killed but, due to their skill in controlling the crash, the remainder of the crew escaped. Posthumously, Flight Lieutenant Anthony, the flying pilot, was awarded the Air Force Cross and his Co-Pilot, Flying Officer Belcher, the Queen's Commendation for Valuable Service in the Air.
