manc-munsters
Get yourself a 50 cal. Had the slot on my ticket for a couple of years. Very nearly bought a Barrett but the edge was taken off when bullet prices went through the roof. Its become very hard to shoot a 50 since the recent agreement betwen the NRA and Landmarc so not really worth having one now unless you live near Sennybridge, Warcop etc The 300 does almost the same job at 1000yds
Wookie
That's really impressive. What does the sabot round shoot like?
manc-munsters
That's really impressive. What does the sabot round shoot like? Hi Sabot is fine now, but took a lot of load development. Basically, I kept putting too much powder in and it threw the sabot out too fast. Eventually, I decided to do things properly and took a chrono and some handloading gear to the range. Went back to basics and built up the load. I now get 4500fps with 1 MOA @ 100yds. I can get it up to 4900fps but the accuracy suffers and can get as bad as 3 MOA @ 100yds. Sabot is good fun, fast and very light recoil as long as being sensible with velocity and range. Its also very cheap to reload as the sabot + the 55g FMJ are less than a decent 308 cal bullet. You use a lot less powder than reloading a 308 too! I also shoot the same sabot and 55g FMJ in the 7.62x39. As the rifle is a carbine, it is real fun to shoot. Its great to have a couple of sabot rounds in the pocket when walking the fields. Saves carrying two rifles.

manc-munsters
blimey Whats the 243 WSSM like compared to standard .243? sorry, missed this one. I owned a standard .243 for a few years, then tuned in to wsm and wssm when i bought the 300wsm. The 243wssm has about 200fps over the standard one, in factory ammo, and can be loaded a little bit hotter than that with home loads. The wssm runs quite a bit more pressure than the standard. I find the wssm lighter recoiling, and the shorter action is very smooth when a second shot is required. I like the fact that I can reload anything from 55g super fast loads, to 105g supper hard hitting loads all in the same rifle. My standard 243 was a Savage, my wssm is a Winchester M70. I find the Winchester much lighter to carry and faster to the shoulder. May not be the same for everyone. Reports about barrel burn out and throat damage were wildly over hyped. Mine is a couple of years old now, and is still like new. If I had to buy another 243, I would go for the wssm over the standard one. hope that goes some way to answering your question? macca
Hi, here are a couple from my cabinet, any guesses Cheers
Baldrick
Macca, that's a .17 Rem, I believe. No idea what the round below is, but it looks like you accidentally loaded a suppository into a .338 Fed case.
macca
Hi Baldrick, no and no - both cartridges made by necking up or necking down the same case. Cheers
MerseaDavid
Here are some of what I use. Eley fourlong 410, Eley 3" magnum 410, GameBore 410, RC1 competition 12bore, Eley 3"magnum 12 bore, Extra Range BB 12 bore, Eley hb pigeon 12 bore, Eley grandprix 16bore, 9mm, .22 Hornet, .22rimfire, ,50 cal. We normally have around 2000 of the Eley HB pigeon catridges, 100 of the RC competition cartridges, 50 of the 410 cartridges, 100 .22 Hornet bullits and around 500 .22 rimfires. Total = 2750 more or less.
TheHunter
Hi Manc-munsters Just out of interest, what justification did the police need for you to have so many different rifles. Cheers
manc-munsters
Hi Manc-munsters Just out of interest, what justification did the police need for you to have so many different rifles. Cheers Justification? Shoot pests, vermin, deer, 25yrd targets, 100yrd targets, 500yrd targgets and 1000yrd targets. I doubt they would grant all this lot on a first application but there is no reason NOT to have so many different rifles after 25yrs in the sport The calibres shown do not actually reate to the number of rifles held on licence, as I have more than one rifle in some calibres. I also have 303-32acp converters on my licence and several open slots. As the old saying goes "if you dont ask, you dont get!" (you should see my shotgun collection!) Here in the UK we tend to have quite small areas of land to shoot over, and relativey restricted backstops/safe shots. The Hornet is perfect in these situations.
