lamping rabbits

Possible yeah, no way ideal though. I used to but the bags were small (8-10 a night) as the rabbit area was small so the noise alerted them fairly quickly. As time goes on they'll get more and more lamp and noise shy, more so than if using say a moderated .22lr.

The area I shot in had slight hills, small ones now not big things. I used to only go out on fairly windy/stormy nights. The wind helped to minimise the bangs. I would work my way up one little depression and down the other side. burrows all over the shop. A few times I had them running up to my feet three and four at a time in two minutes or so to get shot.

If you're just after a few for the pot then it won't be a problem, if it's a control job then you're going to be looking at diminishing returns pretty quickly. So if you go that route you'll need to be absolutely ruthless in the beginning and take as many as possible the first few nights.

Daytime ferreting or longnetting may be options to consider.

I agree with J@mes that you'll be better off with a rifle of some description.

Yeah, I've done it loads of times, but as above, if you've not got much land, they'll all ****** off after the first shot.

My permission has loads of public footpaths and I'm fine up to a .270, so if you haven't done already, check if the land is signed off. They might allow a .17 HMR.
