hw100ktverminator
Hi Fellers, I was out on one of my permissions on saturday morning and came across tracks in some ground that I cant identify 100%. I think they may be muntac, they are a two toed hoof about 1.5" long by 1" wide. I have never seen them on the land as yet but dont really know anything about there habits. The landowner is a large market garden farmer growing all and every type of veg known to man. I do alot of shooting via night vision., am I more likely to see them during daylight or night? Will foxes take them as prey or is the chance of getting injured too high? Cheers Terry
Highlander
Don't shoot them at night, it's illegal unless you've a special licence. Unlikely they get taken by foxes unless sick or injured. Muntjac might be small but they're powerfully built and can be agressive (ask some lab owners) they have teeth that are used for defense. Blackbart
An unusual way of transporting them, this buck survived, believe it or not. That's gotta be a rigged pic !! I dont believe a rover could build up enough speed to catch a munty !
nipper
Currently legislation forbids the release of muntjac, however, rehabilitated individuals may be released within 1 km of where they were found. This has to be within one of the 12 home counties and a license for this release must be obtained from English Nature/Natural England. Despite high road mortalities and the predation of infants, muntjac are well and truly here to stay. Just googled it !

I've seen Roe near Normanton in the bushes beside the M62 and also a couple at Hemsworth. I've heard of them being behind Lin-Pac at Featherstone as well but can't confirm it. Is more likely to be Roe than Munters (although Wakefield has it's fair share of munters ) Dawn and dusk are worth looking for them but I've seen Roe out all through the night in some places. Can be a pain when you're out foxing and keep lamping Roe that are laid down. I take it you shoot on the land that can be seen from the M62 that's always got cabbages and stuff in?
