what is a ballistic tip bullet

Recommended Posts

Pretty much any projectile that is not a full metal jacket. A ballistic tip offers controlled expansion when it enters the target, so a hollow point, lead tip and polymer tip are all ballistic tips. The degree and speed of expansion then depends on the internal construction of the projectile. :good:

A trademark.

:good:??? Nosler ballistic tip ??? iirc ballistic tip use to refer to a brass tip used by the military ??? , however it is used more commonly nowadays to refer to polymer tipped bullets, not hollow point or soft point. The tip provides better aerodynamics and therefore a better ballistic coefficient than a hollow point, whilst the tip will not deform as easy as a lead soft point in use but aides in expansion on target. All this means better accuracy, I'll try to dig up some info from the manufactures

Tony you'll find the v max works quite well and will not over penetrate on fox like soft points can, great for head shot rabbits too. Hopefully they will suit your rifle.

Some ballistic info for the hornady 35 grain v max :good: in case you wish to do some research

'book values' muz vel 3100fps, ballistic co 0.110

edited to add don't throw your old case privi or hornady, you may well want to reload at some point in the future, and the case life is not to long with these, if you have no interest in reloading I'm sure others would be grateful for them ( myself included :o )
