sirnovember
I may buy SMK, CO2 rifle in 22 caliber for shooting rats in the garden. I even saw one on the bird table today! How long can you leave a CO2 capsule in a gun before damge occurs? Thanks Edited February 12, 2009 by sirnovember

How long can you leave a CO2 capsule in a gun before damge occurs? Thanks If you are doing any reasonable level of shooting you will be replacing the capsules every week, so the question does not really arise. Over Christmas, when I didn't touch my SMK for a couple of weeks, I guess that I had left the CO2 in there for about 4 weeks with no after-effects. I do dob a little silicone oil on the capsules when I'm replacing them, which I believe helps the seals Obviously if you leave the gun charged ie cocked - certainly not a sensible action, you may get leakage
Billy.
I wouldn't see much of a problem, I used to leave capsules in my pistol all the time. I think the CO2 eventually just leaks out after a while...! You have to remember that the capsule is not actually under that much compression. Unlike precharged air rifles that take directly compressed breathing air. The CO2 stays in liquid form whilst inside the capsule under about 700 psi, which is quite small when compared to the 3-4000 psi that airguns take. So the vales wont be under too much strain. When the liquid leaves the pressured environment, it expands really quickly, thus making the pellet/BB fire. It's a bit like a cigarette lighter, liquid form in the bottle and gas when it comes out. sirnovember
Is an SMK accurate? Suitible for rat shooting? Cheers
Hezbear
S.M.K. guns are accurate with good pellets, i've shot rabbits with mine at 30 - 40 yards and they have been clean headshots
smsguitarist
Is an SMK accurate? Suitible for rat shooting? Cheers Yes but i'd recommend giving all internals a good polish first (unless it's above 11ftlbs) to help smoothen things up. They are full power if you have a little tinker and just as accurate as you'll ever need. Lewis
luckytrigger
Ive just bought a tuned up qb78 and have been suprised at the accuracy of this little co2 gun. Ive only tried it with rws superdomes and some cheap german pellets (the name escapes me lol) but the groups have been pretty respectable for such a cheap gun. One thing i have learnt is that the first few shots from a fresh pair of powerlets can group a bit erratically. But other than that its a cracker. It should be ideal for some barn rat shooting.. amateur
Is an SMK accurate? Suitible for rat shooting? Cheers ...the first few shots from a fresh pair of powerlets can group a bit erratically. and the accuracy drops dramatically for the last 10 shots as the gas runs out, but as noted above, the "middle" shots are spot on. For the price you can't knock the gun

How long can you leave a CO2 capsule in a gun before damge occurs? Thanks Work out how many shot's you usually get out of 1 capsule. If you put a new capsule in and shoot 3 shot's and come back next week and It is empty you have a leak. Answer to your question Is as long as you like, won't cause damage and If it empty's you have a leak.
