Kennel Club

Today I found out that one of the guys that I beat with bred the mother of my German Wirehaired Pointer, a few months ago on another Irish forum I found the breeder of the father of my dog.

The guy who I bought my dog off never registered the litter as the Sire was less than a year old and he thought the kennel club would go nuts about him breeding from such a young dog, it was an accidental mating. I don't have any contact number for the breeder now as its lost and I had no reason to keep it.

Since my bitch doesn't have papers and now I have made contact with the breeders of the sire and dam of my bitch, how hard would it be to get the kennel club to register her?

She is now 2 1/2 yrs old.

stupid question but why should the age of the sire be that much of an issue. Obviously with the bitch its different and she needs to be fully developed but the sires job as we all know is pretty simple and shouldn't matter age wise

I think its to deter people from buying dogs solely to breed and make money from it. A breeder shouldn't breed from a sire that was unproven in the field.

They also don't like the idea of too many litters being breed from the sam bitch all the time. Its to stop puppy farming.

All good rationales a'gin it, but not *the* rationale for a sire (or dam) needing to be two years old before either is bred--that would be because two years old is generally considered the age where dogs have reached physical maturity and can undergo scoring for health clearances--hips, eyes, elbows and heart. And if scored well, given the go-ahead for breeding so to improve a breed, especially if they are competitive dogs.

Speaking of competition, if your intent in registering your 2 1/2 year old dog is to gain entry to trials or working tests, you might inquire if the KC has a comparable program to what in the US is called an Indefinite Listing Privilege (ILP) number, which usually can be obtained simply by showing a photo of your dog as representative of the breed you say it is. In fact, here's the Bobby Moore on it:

To qualify for an ILP, a dog must look like an AKC-recognized breed; be spayed or neutered; and be at least six months old. The application must be accompanied by two recent photographs of the dog – a full front view and a full side view; a veterinary certificate to confirm the spay or neuter; and statements describing why the dog is not eligible for regular registration (if the reason is known) and why the dog is considered to belong to an AKC breed. Any available supporting documentation (such as a pedigree or a statement from the breeder) should be included.
