Spaniel
HI Been shooting for a while now with the SG and the Daughter is not afraid to try eating anything i bring home, she is 7 years old. Thought last night it was time to let her have a few shots on the air riffle in the back garden setting up a paper target etc Problem is that it is to heavy for her to hold, Is it possible to buy something smaller for them to get use to etc at that age ? Cheers
Billy.
I think the majority of the forum started with a GAT gun...!
Bleeh
Something like the SMK XS78 is both cheap (£70 new I think), cheerful, runs on Co2 so it's recoiless and easy to cycle (bolt) and pretty light- and perfect for basic plinking. Otherwise I'd say something like a ratcatcher - which are also pretty light, but you can't cut down the stock like you could on a 79' Edited February 25, 2009 by Bleeh
Beardo
i've got one (used about twice) if you're interested, complete with SMK 4x32 scope (i think - will check), £60 posted
amateur
My neighbour's kids heard me shooting in the back-garden, so, with their mum's permission, I invited them to have a go with my XS78 and the Crosman 2240 pistol. The 10 year old girl was fine with both - the rifle was a little big for her, but she managed to shoot well. The 7 year old lad's arms were not long enough to hold the rifle correctly, and found the weight too much. He did enjoy shooting the pistol though. I would not have said that the XS 78 is dimensionally much different to most airguns, however the Crosman Ratcatcher at about the same price is definitely more compact and lighter - 3.6lbs as against 5.3 for the XS78. Beardo
it's about half the weight of my HW100S and a lot smaller in the hands
Spaniel
i think her prob is the length of the gun and obviously the weight of it, but my trigger is quite heavy to pull. im going to let he have ago on the air pistol tonight as she can pull the trigge on that fine but i also have a BB gun which she can hold well..... I have always had an interest in guns but it took me up to the age of about 38 before i got one....my old man was never into them or around to take me out etc, my eldest boy is more into fishing like i have been for the majority of my life and although had a few shots at the clay ground he finds shooting boring.....bless him im just trying to get her interested into shooting as she as already asked when she can come pigeon shooting with me, so i want to get the interest going... Beardo
what air rifle do you have btw? My first air rifle was a ASI Paratrooper - they are very light and small (pretty much a pistol with a long barrel and stock) probably fairly hard to get hold of these days (i remover the side panels on the stock so i had a skeleton stock as it's hollow) i remember the first time i fired my uncles 12g - i must have been 8 or 9, knocked me right off my feet, but i loved every minute! Spaniel
Its a Chinese one just under the limit, so i was told when i brought it Single shot .22 break barrel. Nice bit of wood on it and i just fitted a Niko Stirling Platinum 3-10x45 scope to it i got from a member of PW But asking around the BSA supersport and lightening are good for the bunnies, not that i have any bunnies to shoot at present but you never know what could happen these days

Ozzy Fudd
i had an old pump action bb gun called a plains man when i was a kid, it was great, i learnt all the basics on it (holdover, etc), no kick either, maybe you should look at something along those lines? Spaniel
Im going to get her out over the weekend in the garden i think using the .22 pistol and BB gun and see how she gets on, not quite the same as a riffle but i will see how she goes.
