HELP

I went out today with my brand new HW80k and a tin of powapells. As the gun needed sighting in i found a decent backstop and put a piece of duck tape on to aim at.About 20 yards back i found that the first 2 shots were touching each other about an inch left so i altered the scope and fired again.Only 2 of the next 3 shots were visible and were about 3 inches apart (still left ).More adjustment and the next shot pierced the tape-job done-or so i thought.Over the next hour i must have fired a hundred pellets but with no real convincing group whatsoever.Elevation wise everything is rosey-you could almost draw a line across the holes-but windage is another kettle of bananas-at 30 yards in getting as much as 4inch spread-on one occasion one hole was a good 8inches off target.Any ideas would be most welcome-is it just because she needs running in?or are the slugs a poor match?-HELP

have you tried any other pellets in it, worth a go as some guns are a bit fussy about them.

also are you snatching the trigger? can you be sure you're smoothly squeezing it?

How is the gun rested? Bipod/Freehand/Hard surface? As it's a springer, you don't want it held against a hard surface, always put your hand in between it and the rest. As the jolt from the spring will cause it to jump.

Many thanks for all the advice. As the gun doesnt have a silencer i will have to concentrate on the alternatives.I dont think that im snatching the trigger as i can hit most of what i aim at with my rimfire-same as for leaning on a hard surface-without trying to sound big-headed i think i will try a different pellet next-as that seems the likely culprit(i used to be an airgun instructor many moons ago so im hoping my technique is still good)- any recomendations slug-wise?

It sounds to me like you may be using too much finger and are pulling the barrel in either of the lateral directions.. Had you been jerking the trigger the shot group would represent buckshot on the bull :good:

I bet that is what is happening.may be rubbish pellets or clipping of the silencer baffles or bent barrel.there and again hws are not the best out the box.
