chewy0013
I keep reading about people rat shooting. I was wondering where they do it? Do you get many in gardens? How can you bait them? Do they only come out at night? My house backs onto a wood, will I tned to find more or less rats in my garden? Sorry about all the questions but I am very new to this! bruno22rf
Not sure how your neighbours would react if you started trying to attract rats into your garden-im pretty sure that would be illegal-try local farms and you might get lucky.Unless they are a in serious numbers you rarely see them during the day-about an hour after sunset and if they are there you cant miss them.Shooting rats is one of the most exciting uses for an airgun-sometimes they are so close that you cant focus a scope on them.A number of years ago i was invited onto a farm that was over-run with them-when we first arrived i thought that the farmer was having a laugh at my expense as we could not find any rats at all. Then it got dark. The following day my shooting buddy and i invested in 2 semi automatic 9mm garden guns-it was the only way either of us would return! the_commoner
liquidised cat/dog food, peanut butter , or grated chocolate will hold em long enough to get a shot off

luckytrigger
I rat shoot on a dairy farm and have never needed to use bait. Over the past couple of years ive shot them with the rimmy (when a safe backstop presents itself) .410 shottie and various pcp and springer airrifles but have now settled on a hw97k in .22 which is nice and cheap to run Just started taking my boys with me who think its great fun. Be warned though rat shooting is seriously addictive!
Spaniel
Im sure the saying goes that you are never 20ft from a Rat......had alarge one in the garden last year but once i had the air riffle available in the kitchen it never showed it face again..... Im guessing you aint going to see the little blitters until it gets dark...think i might have to invest in a lamp and have a chat with the farmer.. Carbonrocket
I use IR for rats (and now rabbits) but have had good sucess with just a Swat force lamp on the rifle. Shine it around until you spy one. Go to the scope wait for it to stop and take the shot. I would not feed them to attract them so you can shoot them. Just wear camo and a balaclava and move slow. It helps to have a a good permission. Its excellent fun and keeps the owners very happy. Carbon
