I quite like that!

 

Couple of observations though...

 

1) I wonder why they didn't make the magazine longer to the end of the barrel like with their 1894 rifles?

2) I can understand the cylinder choke for slug but cylinder with shot in a .410 will give god awful patterns at anything other than very short range which is why it is usual to see full choke in a .410!

I really think it is meant to throw buck or slug.. And the tube is shorter for those states that can only have three rounds at one time while hunting..

I'd say that gun is pretty much a .444 with a smooth bore barrel. You can fire 2.5" .410 shells through a .444 Marlin and at close range it is supposed to be very good. I'd guess the older slow twist barrels would be better suited to this than the newer and faster rifled guns. It looks almost identical to the .444, even the mag tube.
