chandelierman
Hello there,is anyone using or used the Yukon NVMT4? is it any good? i have found a "cheapish" one inc scope adapter,i won't be looking to see anything further than about 15 - 20 yards..........thanks in advance
Beardo
i've got the NVMT-1 - it's the same piece of kit just a different lens on the front. on it's own you won't see more than 30 yards - but if you stick an ir illuminator on it, it's great for the money. (i got mine from fleabay from that Russian company along with the scope mounting kit)
unclemicky
Yeah I have one (mvnt-1) an it works a treat , getting the focus right is a bit fiddley but it does the job
chandelierman
so is the NVMT4 better? i think it cost about £40-£50 more than the NVMT1,i have seen a seller on fleabay advertising for around £200 inc the scope fitting kit,i am only shooting ( at the most 15mtr ) over the wall nextdoor to kill the rats,i tried a logun lamp but i'd prefer total darkness. steve_b_wales
I use a Cobra Merlin monocular with scope adapter. I have a Blaserlite attached to the scope, and an IR filter fixed to the lamp. It allows me to see for up to 200 yards, although I would not shoot at that range. mark1187
The NVMT4 it the same product as the NVMT1 but has no magnification as it was designed for headset use. IE you keep the 1-1 viewing ratio so you don't trip over things. The NVMT1 is the same product but with a doubler, IIRC. I have a few questions: 1. I plan to use the monocular with my MTC Viper 3-12x44. Would I be better with (a,) the NVMT4 (x1) and use the magnification on the scope from 3x upwards, or (b,) Use the 2x NVMT1 and therefore end up with a net minimum of 6X? 2. I normally shoot left handed but use the other shoulder when circumstances dictate. Can illuminatiors etc be placed centrally to maintain ambidextrous use? 3. Have seen the Ukrainian fleabay items, do you get wacked for duty of any sort by HMCE/Postie etc.? The NV will only be used for rabbits/rats up to 30 yards. Any help greatly appreciated. pestbry
I went ratting last nite , a friend was using a NVMT4 on a cage mounted on his scope with a extra IR. i was using a gbsights nv. we accounted for over 60 rats. And my mate shot a rabbit with the NVMT4 add on at about 30 yrds . i was surprised how well the nvmt worked if you want it for ratting its a cheap way of nv and no need to rezero etc. I also have the nvmt3 3x42 for spotting, for the money its great. Mark lower the mag on scope better with the add on, and the MTC are great with them Bry Edited May 2, 2009 by pestbry
Beardo
you need the 1x to mount on a scope as far as i know - else you end up with a huuuuge reticule and possible focus issues. i got mine from the russian fleabay chap - only took a week to arrive and no import issues/duty
mark1187
Nickbeardo, Presume you are using the NVMT1 for spotting, not gun mounted? Unclemicky, Have you had any reticle issues? What mag. do you use on your scope? Pestbry, What GBsights model do you have? Is it a Merlin and what mag? When you said,"i was surprised how well the nvmt worked", did you mean for the NVMT price compared to your system? Steve_b_wales, What model/mag. is your Merlin? I am only using 12ft pounder so I am not worried too much about range, more interested in the quality of the image for the price. Chandlierman, How cheap is cheapish? I wear specs and have seen the better NV allows up to 5 diopters adjustment. This would be good for me as my specs really dull the scope image in low light. The NVMT models go up to 4 diopters. Anyone used their NV cranked to the max.? If so was the quality as good? I have seen the dedicated rifle eyepiece part 29061 for about £50 This has a mag of x0.5 so would be good on the NVMT1. Anyone tried this? I see Uttings list a Bushnell Prowler 2X Mag. monucular, is this a badged NVMT1? Sorry for so many questions! chandelierman
mark1187, I was budgeting around about £150 all in,i did have someone PM me with a NV for £150 but due to the seller having a low feedback and the amount of dodgy dealings that have been going on i "sort of" never persued the sale,i have now put my TDR up for sale but i'm not too fusses if it sells and would still be interested in buying a NV if the right one came along. unclemicky
Uncle Mickey, Have you had any reticle issues? What mag. do you use on your scope? No problems , works well in total darkness , I wind it down to (3-9x40) times 3 magnification as I use it for close work , Carbon Rocket has a great video on u-tube shooting rats with the same NV , thats what prompted me to buy one Edited May 3, 2009 by unclemicky
pestbry
quote Pestbry, What GBsights model do you have? Is it a Merlin and what mag? When you said,"i was surprised how well the nvmt worked", did you mean for the NVMT price compared to your system? I had the ASPRO now got the ALPRO gb sights add on they are only 1.8 mag comes with a doubler for using as as spotter too. Yes for the price of the NVMT against the gb . If you want it for around the farm sheds etc or rabbits out to about 40yrds then for the price can't be faulted i reckon. The gb sights are Digital, the Merlin are Tube like the nvmt.
