Pykie
I went out yesterday with my dad and brother rook shooting, the farmer had phoned saying he had just sown one of his fields with corn and the crows and rooks were on it. We set up on a small belt of trees, dad on the left, me on the right sixty yards up and my brother Steve behind us shooting the rooks that kept trying to sneak in behind us onto the decoys. We shot thirty with a fairly constant bit of action until lunchtime when the corvids kept away, not at all interested in the decoys. This is where my new crow call, made by a member of Pigeon Watch, came into play. It pulled in many jackdaws and rooks, at one time we had eight jackdaws come in like grouse, low and fast flying. Six barrels droppd three of their number and showed the great variety of shots decoying gives. We ended at 4 o'clock with 68 in the bag, half jackdaws, the other half rooks and crows. Three woodpigeons were also shot by Steve. As we picked up, I noticed this rook amongst the dead. He was in good condition despite his defect and I wonder how he managed to eat properly with a beak like this? The farmer was extremely happy with the bag and hopefully we will be out next Saturday to have another go at them. ShropshireJohn
Good Stuff Maybe he used to trim the nests down for the rest with his scissor beak..?
