tom_0787
walter harrison and his team do a 3 day gundog training session for novices with dogs between 6 and 12 months old. Price is 295. Anyone been on this or know of any other good trainers in dorset? My dog is 9 months and has basic training just concentrating on the stop whistle at the moment. MC
IMO, 3 days of constant training for a 9 onth old dog is too much. You would be better off finding a trainer who will do an hour a week with you
JonnyR
Hi, My wife went on a 3 day ladies course. It is a good course but I would agree that 3 days intensive is very demanding on both dog and owner. Walter and his team know their stuff but a lot depends on your dog and its maturity/steadyness. My cocker was too young in my opinion and was constantly distracted by the other dogs and activity going on around him. I am no expert and do not know your dog so it is hard for me to advise if this is the right thing for you. Jon.
gdunc
As suggested you're better breaking the £300 up into 1 to 1 lessons over time (say one every week or two for an hour each) and work on what you learn in between times. Will make you and your dog better overall. Try and find a trainer with good experience of your breed too.
tom_0787
you guys have confirmed my worrys. Magnum is very easily distracted by other dogs, I had an hour lesson last week with walter and he said that by the end of his course magnum would be bored of other dogs. He seems to really know his stuff. Its £25 an hour for his lessons plus probably £7 in fuel to get there. So its either 9 lessons over 9 weeks or this course. The next course is in may so he will be 10 months old and so long as this stop whistle training goes to plan hopefully he will be far more steady. can anyone suggest any other trainers near bournemouth if they think regular training would be better. butcherboy
The 3 day training course run by Sunstar are to train the OWNER not the dog. He clearly states this in his adds cause 3 days training is to much for a young dog. 3 days of very short sessions isn't though
