Hearing Test and why you should wear hearing protection

Recently got another job after loosing job back in February, taken on temporary and now been offered a permanent job.

I am lucky in that I work for a Health/Medical company who provide a Occupational Health check up prior to employment both to their staff and other companies.

Part of the medical involved a hearing test and I was shocked to see the results especially when I was asked had I not heard some of the noises. It was only when I saw the print out that it revealed my hearing on my right side is bad and that is the side I shoot on. I have now got to see my G.P. and see what he suggests next.

Whilst I allways wear ear protection muffs for shooting I have in the past as part of my job gone down on the engineering shop floors to see people and this is where I encountered noisy environments.

So please all you people that take your hearing for granted, not only when your shooting or if you work in noisy environments - please wear your ear protection and if you dont you really need to seriously consider why not.

funny you should say that-l have been told to go and see my g.P , then to refer me to a hearing specialist. I am a welder/ fab by trade, and have shot guns all of my life, l wear ear plugs now but l never did when l was at work or shooting back when l was younger- maybe 15-20

I am only 27 now so its gonna be a problem later on in life l can tell.

I wanted to join the fire brigade at some point but that might be out the window now!! no good them shouting theirs a fire behind me if l'm corned beef!!

Let that be a warning to you youngens and oldens

I know my hearing is suffering. I always remember to take hearing protection, but because my shooting is a bit of a social thing rather than a heavy duty session, I find myself easing them off my ears or out of my ears to facilitate conversation :D

Kind of defeats the object

I had my Occupational Health check yesterday for Kelda Water.

Apparently my hearing is excellent for my 39 years but I have a loss in the 3kHz area in my right ear. I think its the wife, I am going to move the chairs around in the front room.

On the other side - At work with air blowers and grinding machinery - Ear muffs all the time!!!!

AND at the same time Eye protection is now compulsary at work and I like it. Got to look after yourself.
