decided i had better use some of the pheasants in the freezer, took one out and and like the sound of this so will be trying it out for dinner tomorrow.

Yes I am off shooting today - clay shooting. Dont you just love a club that has a clay shoot on New Years Day especially when your shooting mate has had to go work on a day shift! Thank you for everyone who has a shoot today and for setting it up beforehand. Happy New Year to all.

I have managed only one up to now and did i suffer afterwards with indigestion. Decided its not worth it but its like temptation you want to try again just in case but I havent so far....yet

there are easier ways to get out of the washing up than going into hospital you know ! seriously glad you are all sorted and now feeling better. Take it easy and read lots of shooting magazines and no doubt some jokes on here knowing this lot. take care

Well I didn’t get the Beretta or the Purdey this year but I did get something that money cannot buy and is priceless. A couple of months ago I joined a organisation called AABS Adopt a British Squaddie and have been sending out various items shampoo, shower gel, haribo sweets, chocolate and other treats but I have also been sending out parcels of my shooting and fishing magazines. For security reasons I cannot give details of who the guy is that I have adopted but he is serving in Afghan and we correspond by e blueys and its really nice to hear from him. Thought it would be nice to send a Happy Christmas message for Christmas Day so sent one yesterday. Today At 3.36 am our time (but it was early morning in Afghan) my mobile went off to say I had a email message and guess what it was a reply back from my adoptee to thank me for all I have done and to wish me Happy Christmas. Money can buy anything in this world but this email cost nothing but was priceless to both parties. So to everyone who thinks they have been short changed today and wanted that bit more - realise how lucky you are and spare a thought for all our service personnel worldwide. Had a really quiet day and glad of it as I have a stinking cold but now dreaminbg of how I can spend my Christmas money on some more shooting goodies. Hope you all had a good one.

Yes I think it would be a good idea as lots more people are interested in foraging and anything that helps others to try something new is good. I used to write quite a few bits for another shooting site many years ago, i like making anything that comes free - its my Northern upbringing !! At the moment I am tempted by the mushrooms growing at our gun club but keep forgetting to take my foraging id books with me and have mutual discussions every shoot are they safe or not? But they look so so tempting!

Interesting comments, I was coming back from pheasant shooting in Yorkshire had done a scenic detour to visit JN's in Penrith to stock up with some fishing bits and pieces. On the way down the M6 i needed to visit the motorway services for the ladies - but daren't leave my shotgun unattended in the car - was traveling alone - It was day after New Year as well! Put gun slip over my shoulder and walked in the motorway services at Tebay - did whatever and then visited the farm shop where I had a fantastic conversation with the manager who asked me where I had been and what I had shot etc - great guy. No one else even questioned me as to what was I doing? happy days eh

As an angling society we had been advised by the EA that the crayfish will eat each other and be controlled this way and create the balance rather than trying to remove them.

Better to keep them informed and have peace of mind. If something happened to your guns whilst elsewhere it could affect your future applications. You should not have access to someone else's cabinet/keys as they could be deemed irresponsible too and could affect both your licences.

I am going to try this but instead of using rosehips I am going to use rowan berries. Have made things before with Rowans and gives a lovely pale pink colour. Guess what I am doing on Saturday!

Mine was six weeks for a renewal from Cheshire but it did arrive 2 weeks before the renewal date so I was quite pleased. I did ring them as my cheque had been cashed earlier and heard nothing but found they were more than helpfull on the telephone to any questions I asked. I have shooting friends that have waited 3 months plus with West Mercia.

Interesting comments, its everyone to their own thing that they enjoy. I'm female I shoot and I fish, most of my family think Im strange as I am not into normal things like them!? I carnt imagine weekends without doing either. My birthday and christmas requests are either for fishing or shooting gear or money/gift tokens to buy them. I know people that do airsoft and they are really nice, they even lent me some magazines so I could learn about airsoft and I found it interesting to see what they did and I can appreciate what they enjoy about it. I have middle of the range fishing gear but I know people with gear worth thousands, I would never bivi out fishing for nights on end like the carp guys do but they would not want to pleasure fish like i do. If we all wanted to do the same things in life would it not become boring? It was makes you tick personally that counts. I think it is refreshing that people want to try different aspects of shooting i.e. clays, game, target, painball or airsoft. Wonder what the next idea will be?

Had some interesting conversations down the gun club as to how long people had been waiting for their renewals,differing responses as to what force area you lived in. Some from West Mercia had been waiting since March they cert turning up in Sept, other from Staffordshire were not impressed with hold ups on theirs. So with trepidation I sent my renewal docs back on 25th August ready for renewal on October 30th. Cheque was cashed and heard nothing. Rang them last week and they said my licence would be renewed and a uniformed officer would then come out and check my safe etc. Today my new cert arrived two weeks before its renewal date so well done Cheshire Police Firearms renewals. I will enjoy a exchange of conversations at the gun club now being able to praise the renewals department.

Bought a clay shooting vest at the Midland from Gilsan Sports of Richmond, Yorkshire. Got it home and looked at it to find it was LH and I am RH. Rang them up on the Monday to explain it was my fault and could have not been more helpful, told me to return it and they would exchange it. Rang me up to say they did not have RH in one I had and offered me alternatives. Told them what I wanted they ordered it in and rang me when they had it in. Chose one slightly more expensive and paid difference over the phone. New RH vest has now arrived and was better than the other one. Nice in this day and age a retailer that makes an effort particularly when it was my fault. Have been to their shop in the past when up in Yorkshire and would buy from them again.

There is a clay shooting ground at Mickley Hall, at Broomhall just outside Nantwich run by John/Scott Barnett - Not sure if I put tel no on here I will break rules so PM me to ask. They do open practice as well as a 80 bird sporting shoot on 1st, 3rd and 5th Sunday in the month. John is Ex England international and does coaching as well. I have had some lessons from him and found him really good. I joined a club Rowley Gun Club near Loggerheads a few years ago due to lack of shooting opportunities in Cheshire but its nice to see something coming back rather than going in this day and age.

Decided I'm going down on Saturday, everyone in my office thinks I'm sad - Dont you get enough of shooting at work they asked? Then on Sunday I can go clay shooting down in Staffordshire as well! Housework can wait !

i made a rowan berry and crab apple jelly which tastes lovely with lamb. Quite messy to make and difficult to set at first but tastes with a bit of a kick and a lovely pale pinky colour but gin clear. Did get quite a few strange looks from people when they saw me picking the rowan berries though. if anyone want to try it I will post the recipe on here.
