Lamping the night away.....................

:good: I went out onto one of my permissions last night with bionicle and raja clavata, we must have covered 10 miles plus and saw one rabbit that bionicle missed!!!! ....just!!!

As we walked round it became apparent why....there were foxes everywhere!!!! Most that we couldnt shoot as out of range and didnt come in to the squeak or the shot wasnt safe.

We did manage a few, a vixen that walked ahead of us made the mistake of laying in the wheat and then popping up her head when i squeaked her at about 70 yards...........

I dont generally take head shots on foxes but thats all i could see!!!

While we were getting pictures another one poked its head out of the bushes about 40 yards away, bionicle did a cracking chest shot free standing and bowled it, unfortunately it rolled down a steep bank into a load of stingers next to a river and I couldnt be bothered to get stung retrieving it. Bionicle then said look behind you, and another one had come out to see what the fuss was all about....and he did that one free standing at about 60-70 yards straight through the lungs, just flopped over and didnt even twitch!!

Raja knows the land a lot better than us and said that we should always lamp behind us as they come out after you have gone....he was bang on..........we didnt get anymore but played cat and mouse with 2 that kept following us that we didnt get in the end.

I called into one of my other farms to get some rabbits and there were none around, and there in the middle of the feild was a vixen, i popped her off at around 80 yards (didnt take a piccy, was 3 am and was to knackered!!) and scanned the rest of the farm, there is a turkey farm next door, and the other week while scanning my farm i spotted 5 foxes around the turkeys, so i offered to reduce the foxes for the farmer....he was having none of it and told me they do thier own pest control......LAST NIGHT THERE WERE 6 FOXES IN ONE PADDOCK!!!! No wonder there were no rabbits around!!!!!

That was a good night mate, feel totally knackered but I’m on duty at 9 tonight :good:

Might be going over again on Sunday, been shooting those field for four years and that was latest I’d been out there, taking a shovel next time to dig up that grave......

Might even bring the 243......

:)

Grave? B)

Good Shooting OP, freaky eye popping on the fox though.. Pressure of the bullet going in causes that?

There appears to be a full size grave in the middle of a path in the woods, I suspect its kids but I was more interested in shooting than digging up graves...................

Its the impact that causes the damage, the whole otherside of the head was blown out of shape...she didnt suffer.

What you shooting with now ?

Still have my style, wont ever get rid of it, I love it.................that beast is a cz silouhette in .17hmr..............with a lightforce 170 and red filter. :)

Amazing,

Took a walk round last night with just the lamp to see if more had moved in; certainly had.

Heard the beeps from a couple of metal detectors when right over the back, saw a couple of figures moving about that looked like they shouldn't be there but chose not to lamp 'em up just in case they shot back.

Just as I was getting back to the car I heard the unmistakable sound of an HMR which seemed like it came from the same area that all the action occurred in last week.

Had a great time last week chaps, thanks, despite only firing one round --- look forward to getting back out there soon.

Cheers

Mike

EE,

There was so much beeping going on at one point that I thought it was a delkim going off for a split second ...

There's too many people over there at night that clelarly shouldn't be there and it's only gonna get worse as the nights get shorter and hotter.

Apparently there was a high point on the HMR bolt which has been polished off - kinda odd given that the .22lr bolt was almost as stiff - anyway it should be back for the weekend.

Also asked about the stuck bullet thingy on the .22lr - known issue that they would be happy to rework (they all do it in that calibre!) although it could reduce accuracy slightly somehow.

Had to get a bit nardy with the shop about the HMR earlier in the week as it seemed like it was nobody but mines priority - bad show given it's brand spanking new - even had GMK on the phone to me today ...

Speak soon, maybe real soon ;)

;) Im sure the bleeping metal detector brigade will soon scoot when they here the report of your sako next week. Tbh I dont have a problem with them, allbeit that they are putting themselves at risk ...........youve seen Bionicle shoot...hell shoot ANYTHING!!!!

Im more concerned about the people coursing foxes with dogs and that grave..............dennis was going over yesterday to dig it up, must call him.

With regards to the hmr you heard, there is only me you and Bionicle cleared to use them over there, so my guess would be the ******** from the next farm over..............(unless of course bionicle was over there.!!!
