SGC query

Recommended Posts

I know loads of people ask about applying for a SGC.

As its my 17th birthday in 3 and a bit months and i want to be able to buy my first shotgun from the shop.

I was wondering if i could apply for a SGC like 1 month before my birthday seeing as many people say that their areas takes months before they receive theirs.

Also has anyone had any experience with the Gateshead FEO's and how long it takes them to get the applications sorted out?

Cheers

Gateshead would come under Northumbria and they are busy at the moment. From posting my application it was 6 weeks to FEO visit and it's 3 1/2 weeks since visit and I'm still waiting! :look: As it happens I've been working at Northumbria Police HQ this week and just made a little inquiry with the firearms dept and my application should be processed next week.

Im in a similar position to you, i am 17 on may the 18th and got my SGC a couple of months back now and i would say go far it for sure BUT i have to send the certificate back when i am 17 as it says that i can not buy any shotgun or carts on it (luckily may dad can take care of that for me) and have to return it at 17 so they can remove this clause. Hope this Helps,

George

My son was given a SGC and a FAC while was 14. It just says on the SGC that he can't buy a section 2 gun till his 17th birthday. (He couldn't own a section 2 shotgun so he has a section 1 13 shot Remmy 1100)

Yes pay up front with the application and get a receipt for it if handing it in at Police station. If sending by post make cheque paid to "Firearms Department" and send it recorded.

Referees should be someone in a respected role like a manager of a company, Doctor, Dentist, civil servant, teacher. etc Members of the Police force cannot be your referee and who has known you for at least 2 years minimum.
