2 x .22LR's on FAC

I am looking into the possibility of getting a second 22LR on my FAC but have heard this can be problematic, at present i have a CZ 452 BA and this is used for all general 22 duties but i was hoping to get a 22 under lever mostly for lamping from a vehicle due to they're small size and the fact that iron sights are very robust, i would also like to keep the cz for the bunnies in the daytime using the scope, do you think this will go throug with the firearms licensing ok?

I contacted my FEO and asked him and he sent back the following -

Garry

I hope you, your good lady and the new baby are well and that you are settled in at ~@#'...

Yes, there can be a bit of grief re possession of two weapons of the same calibre. The important thing is to demonstrate that they are different; that they are to be used for different purposes; that it is necessary to have the two for the two separate purposes.

It that is the case, it means completing a Firearms Form 101 applying for a variation. As you are adding a weapon to your holding this means a charge of £26 - to 'Grampian Police'. You do not require referees so you do not need to complete that part of the Form.

Importantly, your gun cabinet has to have the capacity for the addition weapon.

I hope the above helps. If you have any queries, just give me a call/email.

Cheers.

Ian

So do you think my reasons are good enough?

I have two bolt-action .22s, one for normal lamping and daytime conditions, and one set up with a permanent NV sight. Plod was happy to approve.

You may get away with the second .22 with iron sights, although I'd question why iron sights were an advantage for lamping.

Your FEO seems a decent bloke though, so if I were you I would crack on.

he is a really good bloke, very approachable, i was intending in looking into gen2 NV when funds allow but this was more for the 243, i guess i could add this as a reason on top of the others, and the iron sights are less likely to get knocked about as the scope does when bouncing around in the 4x4, i was amazed at how small the under levers were so thought these would be good for the lamping when the most i usually shoot is 50-60ish yards.

Will you be using a hand-held lamp, or one mounted to the barrel? Unless you can fit the iron sights with fibre optic or tritium dots, you may struggle somewhat with quick target acquisition in the gloom. However if you managed to get the rifle to fit you as a shotgun would, you might be able to aim it shotgun-style.

I might give open sights a try this weekend, with the horrible Remington semi-auto .22 I have lurking at the back of the cabinet. If you get it set up correctly, I reckon it might have some merit.

Baldrick,

It is a vehicle roof mounted spot light, i'm just filling in the 101 form and am unsure what to put in the ammunition part (as i already have an allowance for .22LR obviously, i have just put - "AS PER CURRENT ALLOWANCE"

do you think this makes sence?? in the Reason section i have put "for use with iron sights and nightvision for rabbit control with spot lamp"

What do you reckon? the fire arms licencing up here is very good and realistic (on most occasions)

Regards,

Garry.
