Shooting on the peas with HH today

Big thank you to HH for the invite to shoot with him over a field of drilled peas today, couldn't believe it when I turned up to meet him, looks exactly like his avatar picture :ernyha:

The weather was to say the least inclement, we had a couple of driving snow showers, sleet, rain and a howling wind. Despite that the pigeons came for us a bit in between the wet and we ended up just after midday with 30 nice woodies. We called it a day as they stopped coming and it seemed pointless hanging around waiting for the next lot of snow. Really enjoyed the chance to meet and shoot with yet another member of the forum, all that I've met so far have been 100% sound people.

Hope that I can invite HH up this way for a bit of pigeon scaring before too long but the rape shooting is now a waste of time and the drilling has had very patchy results.

They do say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and with my good looks we don't need bird scarers in my area - I just take off my face mask and they are gone for good...:ernyha:

Shame about the lack of birds - it's been that way around my area for the last year or so - but I had hoped for a better day - if they won't come to drilled peas, then they won't come to anything.

Old Rooster is a Hot Shot with the old side by side - he poleaxed a couple of birds that most people wouldn't have raised the gun at - a real pleasure to shoot with.

It was good to shoot with someone trustworthy, particularly as we were in close proximity. Probably helps that I use a shotgun left handed but hide discipline is always a must. It worked out very well with us taking sensible shots as they presented themselves to us, neither of us trying to shoot the others birds, HH let lots fly past him so that I got some shots, the mark of a true sportsman and gentleman. It's not always the size of the bag that counts when you go out on days like this, it was very enjoyable and good to know of another sensible shooter who can be asked to help out if things get a bit hectic.

Not sure that I'd class myself as any sort of "hot shot", I can miss some of the easiest birds with the best, even missed a sitter yesterday !!! We did both nail one or two that thought they'd got out of range though. Interestingly we shot 2 birds which we knew were hard hit but both flew in exactly the same direction, the first fell just over the fence in the next field about 300 yards from the hide, the second within 10 yards of it. One of HH's went in the same direction but dropped just inside the field we were in.
