Any budding Sparkies out there that know any thing about Inverters ?

I've an old Boxford Lathe, three phase running off an Inverter which has stopped working for some reason. I'm lost without this Lathe, & need some advice on whether this Inverter is beyond repair..!!!!

I'm in the N/E near Newcastle, anyone in this area could help me out with this ?

i presume you are talkin about a single phase in three phase out inverter. what is the voltage in and out like?

Yes, 240v in, 3 Phase out.

As for in & out voltage I haven't a clue.

Switch the Inverter on, the Lathe will run for about 30 sec's or so, then just stop, just started doing this recently,

There are quite a few different types of inverters, as you said you have 240 volt in and 3 phase out. Do you have a multi meter to test the output voltage ?

I am familiar with some inverter drives which vary the hertz of the output as demanded by a 4 - 20 Ma pressure transducer, yours sounds like a single phase in, three phase out for situations where a three phase supply is not available, you need to confirm the actual output voltage of the inverter, if the voltage is there and the motor does not run it will be a problem with the motor or the contactor or overloads, you need some one who can safely use a multi meter and has knowledge of motors.

As always, if you are unsure of electricity do not mess with it, pay someone to come and test it for you.

Thanks for the reply Andy,

That's exactly what it is Andy...this Lathe has ran on this Inverter for over a year now, & a few months ago just came to a halt.

Do you have a multi meter to test the output voltage

Yep, I can get one, but will need a ABC on how to test the output voltage...!!!

Thanks,

BJ.
