John_R
I sometimes think of getting a O/U for times when the semi is either unwelcome (game shoots) or just a pain for spraying empties. I was thinking maybe a 30" as the M2is a 26", so that would be another "change" so to speak. However, I got to thinking about the fact that basically I am a small built guy and I do lack upper body strength. Would that matter any if the gun was basically well balanced in all other respects? I read that the slightly longer barrel can smooth the swing, but should I be considering this in other ways?
DomM
errm i would say get down to the clay ground, get an instructor or friend to bring both barrel length guns out out and try both on each stand. you will soon find out wich one is for you. i am 5,10" pretty well built and i did this and decided the 30" was best for me as the 28" was just way to light and unsteady. hope this helps slightly. im sure the pros will be along shortly offering some great advise! John_R
I do prefer to shoot in the field, so would prefer to bias a gun to that rather than clays. I also forgot to mention I do have a 20 gauge O/U which is 28" and I shoot OK with that, but would like to let my wife have that!
Guest topshot_2k
i prefer 28" as i do a lot of pigeon shooting and its fast to swing
wisecobandit
Its whatever you feel comfortable with at the end of the day.. I shoot 28" 30" and 32" cos im greedy lol. At the end of the day you will shoot best with a gun that feels comfortable to you regardless of barrel length. I shoot 28" in the field and skeet mainly the 30" and 32" for sporting/trap depending on venue etc.
libs
Its all down to how the gun feels etc. A 30" gun may be lighter than a 28" of another variety.... Its just another factor to add to the list of gun fit. On a side note don't let anyone tell you about the 'cheeky extra 50fps' you get from the "2 of tube
dodeer
I prefer a 28" 12 bore for any disicpline. However when i have used a 20b Perrazi 32" that felt very well balanced.
John_R
I appear to have purchased a 30" Browning 525! I looked at a few guns and to be honest it came down to the stock more than the barrels. I need quite a high comb, and the likes of Silver Pigeon etc. all had my eye hidden behind the breech. It feels a heavy beast but I would say that coming from a Benelli M2 and my dinky 20 gauge. However, we took it out from the shop (Oxford Guns) to the on site clay ground, and out of about a dozen clays I missed just one. Certainly looks nice too. I'm tempted to take the two down to the clay shoot this weekend and have a play, but mindful that it could be confusing to shoot two very different guns back to back.
