hi lads....hope you are all ok.....

i am hoping that one of you may help me with this....

i am just waiting to hear of my sgc.........i had decided that

i would not buy anything until i had my licence in my hand.

but, i was talking to an old chap last week, he lives in the

same village as i do...he just happened to say, that he still

has his gun cabinet, he has had it a long time.......and to-day

i went to see it, it certainly looks the business to me, but i am

no expert...........the key is of the cylinder type, and looks to me

as if it could in no way be replicated....when the key is turned,

it operates three large steel levers, top middle and bottom, it

would be nigh on impossible to use a jemmy on it.....i could not see

any names on the cabinet, but the key has two names on it,

CAMLOCK.....EASTBOURNE......and also a serial number.......

i'd like to ask, if any of you have heard of this make, and more to

the point, would this cabinet be accepted by the police to-day.......

hope that one of you might be able to help me.....

thank you in advance.....................mick...

There might be a kitemark and a bs number on it somewhere. I am sure one of the PW legal team can dig up the current regs for you to check it against. Best of luck with all of this and if the cabinet is no good have a look at brattonsounds, all models police approved and a guy on here does em for a fair price.

If it has a cylindrical lock it is probably a bramah lock , A very secure lock exceeding most british standards and fitted at one time to gun cabinets supplied to the Ministry of Defence.

# Bramah Locks are accepted as exceeding BS3621:2004 for security

# Exceptionally strong with outstanding finish

# Each Bramah key is unique the owner and will never be repeated

# The Bramah key mechanism is unique, superbly pick-resistant and incredibly reliable

# Keys are registered and only available directly from Bramah meaning they can never be duplicated without your knowledge.

there isnt a set standard that it HAS to meet for SGC. Aslong as its pretty solid and fixed to solid wall/floor out of sight it will be fine.

just one more small point to think about.

you say that you wont buy cabinet until you have cert in hand.unless you have nominated somewhere to store guns at another address that has been checked, you wont get your cert to start with.plus your flo will have to make another visit to check yours after.

unless you have been very silly there is no reason you wont get cert.

having to have a second visit from your flo could quite easily add 4-5 weeks to your wait.

thank you all for taking the time to reply...

i think i will buy it then, it certainly looks good to me...

can i ask you one more thing, ??

could you tell me, the size of the bolts i will need, to fix

the cabinet to the wall :D

thanks again................mick

what size are the holes in the cabinet? i used 10mm bolts before but this time i have 8mm bolts into solid wall and you can hang off it

I'm not sure if that's quite true, I got my SGC with no gun and no cabinet. I told the FAO that I was due to move house in3 months and when I bought the new house I was going to move out again to have building work; So I didn't want to go through the hassle of keep having to move the cabinet. He had no problems with that and issued me my license.

that's my experience.....

not saying he wont get sgc but it`s possible, did you say to your flo that you would`nt be buying gun intill house moving was sorted.

you may have just been lucky.my flo was very picky with me even asked for refs at my interview and rang and checked with them to see if they knew me.with what i went through to get my sgc i think they should have sent me fac.

My FEO agreed my sgc with no cabinet in place. I told him I would get the cabinet fitted once i had bought a new gun, showed him where i intended to put it, which he was happy with. Now have cabinet in place, have had three guns on my cert, still waiting for him to come and check the cabinet! Have spoken to him on the phone, said he'll come when the bods in the office tell him to!

Used coach bolts....cab bolted into floor joists....joys of a modern build home, no brick internal walls. Having said that, it may only be bolted into timber joists, but it aint going anywhere!
