huntercarbine
hi all, i was just wondering how many other shooters regret selling a gun. For me it was my first airrifle so at the age of 17(18 years ago) with provisional licenses in hand me and two mates went to the mansfield gun shop. One mate bought a secondhand vulcan with 4x40 scope in .22 for £70 and was well chuffed! The other bought a brand new hw77 .177 and 4x40 scope for £220, equally pleased! I'd made my mind up as soon as i saw it and after handing over£170 was the proud owner of a secondhand hw80k in .22 with a tasco 3-9x40, a whisper? silencer, plaited leather sling and adjustable butt piece. The shop owner (incredibly nice bloke) told me he'd just put a new spring in and it would almost shoot as well as the 77 my mate had just bought. It was better! shot my first rabbit(with pointy pellets i might add), pigeon and squirrel with that gun and it never missed a beat. There was hardly any recoil or twang so i dont know if it was tuned, just awesome. Anyway over the next couple of years lack of interest in shooting(and more in booze and ladyfolks) i sold the gun back to the shop i bought it from, £170 and the bloke remembered me.i didnt lose a penny. Fastforward 18years and i'm back into shooting, after a failed romance with a gamo csi i tried my mates tx200hc .177 and was so impressed i bought one. Its smooth, powerful and very accurate with aa diablo's and bisley magnums , but its not the hw80k i once had............ the next gun i buy will be a hw80, in fact i may even swap the 4month old tx for one.. does anyone else reminisce about a past rifle? bruno22rf
Snap-my biggest regret was selling my early HW80-bought it about 15 years ago and killed hundreds of rabbits and pigeons with it-i used to teach kids to shoot at a local school and as a demo we used to put up a plate with a steel pin in the middle about 2mm in diameter. On this pin was pushed a plastic "cap" available for toy guns and the whole thing was placed 20 metres away.Back in those days i could hit it almost guaranteed 50% of the time and the resulting bang as the cap ignited was most impressive.Anyways- i sold the gun when buying our first house and im still kicking myself now.Ive owned and used many puffguns since then but none have given me the confidence that the old 80 gave me-mind you my S200 does come close. SNAKEBITE
I regret selling my HW57. First decent gun I had. Still the Father in Law's BSA Lightning that I have "stolen" sort of makes up for it!

swift4me
I'll only add a thought or two. As a gun dealer, I had many "neat" guns come in where I could buy them at a good price and keep them for my own pleasure. I have to admit that I'm not one to take advantage of widows and the ignorant though.... my mom taught me not to do that. Even with that, I could buy a gun, enjoy the gratification of the purchase, enjoy shooting it for the first time, maybe enjoy owning it for a while, but then sell it. Not necessarily for some unreasonable profit, but sell it nonetheless. We do put alot of love and mental energy into the things we use to kill... at least I do. But many guns come and go through most people's hands if they are truly serious shooters through life. Instead of the regret, think about it as if you were talking about how many great looking "birds" you had shagged. That makes you more "experienced", like Jimi Hendrix asked. Just for fun, my biggest regret was a deluxe model Husqvarna Mauser in 220 Swift, that put three in a dime with factory ammo. But I know where it lives and I'll own it again. No regrets. alexm
I still have my BSA Superstar I have had since I was about 14. I haven't really used properly in years but I did try it last year to see if it still works and it does! Still have my Beretta 686 I have had since I was 16 too. Don't have the heart to get rid of either of them!
dcliff
I don't regret selling any of mine... things move on, don't they? Although I wish I still had my old 106 Rallye.... (simply cos they seem to have gone up in value - can you believe that?!)
